Guest guest
Congratulations. My neighbor's grandchildren graduated too. One in Florida and the other in NJ. He printed out the pictures the family took of them in their cap and gown and they now hang proudly on our china closet windows. Then two days ago the oldest came in her prom dress. Now that one has to go up. It appears we have adopted grandchildren and we love it. Mom shines around kids. They are so polite even though she makes no sense when she talks. Only we (I) need to become like the little child! Aliceanne On Thu, 16 May 2002 20:52:42 -0400 Pattie writes: > My daughter had a graduation ceremony at preschool today. Guest guest
You'll have to take the train. There is nothing by the airport (I assume you mean O'Hare and not Midway). Bledsoe, DO, FACEP Midlothian, TX [http://www.bryanbledsoe.com] Off topic Quick question...I am off to Chicago this month for a PACS conference (I get to be the escort), and am in need of directions to a GOOD kosher deli, and a GOOD Chicago pizza place. I'll be staying at an airport hotel, so somewhere near there would be appreciated. Mike " Some days you're the dog, and some days you're the hydrant; pretty easy to figure out which is which. Guest guest
That's fine too, I work in Refugio, the closest thing they have to either item is Hebrew National Hot Dogs and Pizza Hut.... Guest guest
Try the Kosher Supermarket, 4020 W. Oakton, Des Plaines, or Myers on Lincoln Avenue in Des Plaines. As for Pizza, try the Pizzaria Due in Rosemont (near O'Hare). Guest guest
Re: Chicago All the suggestions about Elk Grove, Skokie, and so forth will require that you have a car. Trying to get there by public transportation can be done, but you could solve all the problems of world peace before you could figure it out and get there. OTOH, if you take the train downtown, you can find just about any kind of trouble you want to get into, including Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, Kosher Delis and so forth within either walking distance or by a short taxi ride. Cabs are a bargain unless you try to go cross town. Taxis cruise the downtown area all the time and you just hail one and get in and go. Also cabbies usually know good places, but remember that they may get a kickback from a place they take you, so they are might not be entirely objective. Do NOT go into South Chicago on the train. If you do happen to miss a stop and go outside the downtown area or Near North or Lakeshore, stay in the station and take the next train in the other direction. It's OK to go to Wrigley Field and up in that direction, but I do not recommend South Chicago for any reason unless you really know what you're doing. You'll be fine downtown in The Loop and up along the lake. The Natives generally are friendly, but they don't say " Hidy " to everybody that comes by, nor do they wave or make eye contact. If you do those things you'll soon attract street people and beggars and hustlers who will have pegged you for a rube. Do not stop and turn around and stare when you see male couples or female couples walking hand in hand. Do not be frightened if you spot people in full leather fetish regalia carrying casseroles into the Episcopal Church Parish Hall; they're just going to Leather Masters and Slaves Night at the church. Anybody who wants to get into a conversation with you on the street does not have your wellbeing in mind. Mind your own business and you'll be OK. Don't talk to a policeman unless you plan to be beaten soundly about the head and shoulders. They can't understand what you're saying and you can't understand them. Their natural response to being approached is to beat you senseless. It's easy to ride out with Chicago FD EMS. You'll have to go to the Central Fire Administration office downtown and sign a waiver. They'll send you to a busy station, but you'll have to figure out how to get there. Station 1 is great and busy. You'll find the firefighters/medics to be friendly and fun. They will not let you stay past 2200 hours, or at least they wouldn't when I used to ride out. If you go out with them and they tell you not to get out of the truck, pay attention. There are some places where you don't get out of the truck till there are two police cars there and the cops have got the shotguns unlimbered. If they offer you body armor, wear it. We'll expect a report on your expedition when you return. GG
