Valencia,

For my son the antivirals and antifungals are both

key. He still takes them both today along with a light dose of

SSRI. As per Dr. Goldberg, the antifungals need to be switched every Six

months to a year as to not develop a tolerance. We use either Nizoral or Diflucan.

As long as the blood tests show liver function is okay, don’t worry about

any complications from using these meds. That used to scare me to death

before I realized they were okay. In the sixteen years my son has taken

them we have never had an abnormal blood test. The reason Dr. G makes us

take them so often is to catch anything before it can cause any damage. I

will forward two more emails privately with my son’s story as well as

what we did medically to help him.

Best,

Marcia

Marcia,Do you know the reasoning in Dr. G's opinion as to why frequent small doses of 5htp in lieu of rx SSRIs are any better for blood flow in the brain? Is it a question of blood-brain barrier issues? I know some believe these supps don't optimally cross the BBB... but I would assume that if he is of the beliefsome supps are injuring the brains, then he must feel like they are able to get there in the first place??Just curious... TYVM for helping us understand some of Dr. G without having to ask him ourselves LOL !!! :-) --- ToniTo: valencia.wilson@...; mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, August 19, 2010 11:58:27 PMSubject: Helping our kids get better

Toni,

I am not the best at the medical questions as I am just a

mom, but if you have an educational or behavioral issue I can help.

Sorry.

Marcia

P.S. I will forward your question to Kathy on

who is a medical person and runs the Northern New York Autism Clinic
