Guest guest
Wow what a %#!!$*# Bummer! I was trying to think of some nice words to say but that really stinks! I remember when I had my sinus infection 3 weeks before surgery and my doctor wouldn't clear me until it was gone and they couldn't take my blood until I was off the meds so my surgery literally came down to not knowing one week before. Well it all worked out so keep up the hope. The ortho looks at it like he is designing the teeth one by one and the surgeon will probably be ready to rip your jaw apart ; ) -Donna B. Guest guest
Irish! (you sound like you need your usual punctuation!) - This may be some comfort to you - my teeth were not quite ready for surgery, but I had had enough of waiting around. I am closing in on 30, and told the ortho and surgeon that I wanted to get pregnant, and obviously couldn't have the surgery while pregnant, so, could they hurry it up? They told me it would likely mean a little longer in braces after surgery - probably 8-10 months instead of the typical 4- 6. Well, I decided to go for it, and I don't regret it at all. One drawback is that my bite isn't perfect yet - there is still some obvious moving that needs to be done. Of course now that surgery is done, I want these braces off, but even just the surgery (funny to say that - " just the surgery " - ha) has made a HUGE difference in my life. I hadn't realized how much the waiting was wearing on me...it felt like my life was on hold - no vacation planning, no baby, no big expenses, etc... Anyway, try to talk with your surgeon about options. If he says it is a no-go, obviously it is for the best, and you'll have no choice but to wait. But, maybe you can convince him that you're emotionally ready, your life is on hold, and if it is something small, you really need to go ahead with surgery as planned - even if it means a little more tweaking once it is done (if that would be ok with you). Good luck to you. mollymcp > Hi all, > > Very disappointing day for me today. Glad I can come here to " talk " . > I woke up this morning and realized that one of my teeth was kinda > achey. Guest guest
Oh, Irish, I'm so so sorry. What a complete bummer. I've had teeth turn completely around in a week...so maybe by next Wed. that sucker will be back in place. I'll be crossing my fingers for you. What an awful thing to happen so close to your surgery. Guest guest
Hi Irish, Sorry to hear the bad news. Don't get to down. If your teeth moved out of place that quickly then it can be moved back to where is suppose to be quickly too. It also sounds like your ortho applied some " super forces " on that tooth. So don't worry... keep positive. Even if your tooth doesn't move enough in time. I wouldn't rush anything... even if it means postponing the surgery for a week or two. Patience is worth the BEST outcome. Keep on smiling..... =) Best Wishes! Randy > Hi all, > > Very disappointing day for me today. Guest guest
They managed to forget to tie one of mine one time, and that was the most painful thing I've had so far, Irish. The tooth moved overnight enough for the wire to seat itself in the bracket (ouch!). It's still not totally straight. So they can forget to do one -- the tech forgot, and the ortho, who checked, didn't notice, nor did I. Chances are pretty good, though, that if it moved that quickly one way, it could move in reverse just as swiftly. especially with that tie working on it -- so sorry! If worst comes to worst, too, your surgeon will still probably be able to work you into a cancelled spot. My guy told me when last I saw him that the patient booked for the slot after me had cancelled. (Now if he just doesn't get carried away and decide to do his favorite op, the upper, on me while he has the spare time!!!) I am so sorry. Stuff, as they say, happens. But maybe there's a reason. I do understand completely how you feel, I think. But try to learn more patience and treat it as a chance for a bit more preparedness. I will tell you that I am finding that I'm running out of time for all the last minute things. So maybe, go on and get stuff ready just as you would have, and you won't have a last-minute swivet, even if you do get postponed. Got my fingers crossed for you and that tooth! Guest guest
Irish! I feel so bad for you. I hope it works out and your surgery can go ahead as scheduled. I am puzzled by your predicament, however, because I had the exact opposite problem. My ortho kept saying that I was ready for surgery (starting at a year-and-a-half in braces), and that he could make adjustments later. My second surgeon evaluated me three times, but kept wanting more movement. My third surgeon wanted to pull out my wisdom teeth first. So when my fourth, and final, surgeon was ready to do it right away (and after I haggled with insurance again), and I had a date, I was so relieved and ready to get it done. The waiting is terrible, but the end result will be worth it. I'll end on a good loose tooth note. About two weeks ago, I noticed three loose teeth where I had bands, and was worried that I wouldn't get my braces off next week as previosly planned. I made an extra trip to the ortho and he said that he didn't think that they were that loose and that we'd follow the original plan. Here's hoping that you have the same result. Guest guest
Oh Irish. That is so disappointing. What amazes me is that one tooth could mess the whole thing up for July 12. Sure glad you got in there today and noticed it. The good thing is that you have three weeks to get that tooth where it should be. Would seem far less feasible if it was one week before and that sucker had to move to the right spot. I am praying that that tooth will get where it is supposed to be and that the surgeon can somehow work around that and do the surgery as scheduled, as long as it won't compromise your outcome. You know you have an awful lot of people supporting you now. Hopefully all of us doing what we do can help " move " that tooth to where it should be. I certainly can imagine your disappointment, but it's not for sure yet. Anything is possible. Donna > Hi all, > > Very disappointing day for me today. Guest guest
I would totally keep my fingers crossed on this one. When I went in for my first set of molds and got the surgeon's diagnosis, she said that 2 of my top teeth had to be " rotated " out b/c the pointy parts were catching on my bottom teeth. I had a good cry as she didn't know how long it would take for the teeth to move, and I was thinking months. I made my appt with my ortho after he spoke to my surgeon in May and went in for new molds the next month (which was last week) and the teeth had moved exactly where and how they wanted them to and now I have a date. I'm actually ready now, but I have to donate my blood and they didn't have an opening until August. I also have to say that I hadn't been in teeth pain like I was the week after he made the special adjustments to rotate them out since I got the braces on. I actually used one of my carefully hoarded Lortabs that I had left over from my gallbladder surgery, they hurt that bad. Don't lose faith, if it's just that one tooth, it may move faster than you think. Praying for ya, J. > Hi all, > > Very disappointing day for me today. Guest guest
Irish- Everyone has already said everything and anything I can possibly think of to say in regards to this situation... just hope for the best and go with the flow if you have to wait another week or two...HA! I should take my own advice sometime. Easier said than done but somehow I know you'll manage with whatever is thrown your way. We're here for you. Waiting is a royal pain in the butt.
