Guest guest
Hi, Just so you know you're not alone, my son (age 5) also wears both hearing aids and glasses. He got the glasses last summer for nearsightedness, and doesn't wear them all the time, but he does wear them in school. Because he is a little older than Allana, he realizes he sees better with them and wears them when he needs them. (Takes them to school in his backpack and is responsible himself for wearing them.) I think I'd go with a strap to hold them on like you plan to do. Also, when we got them, I paid a few dollars more and got something like insurance so if the frames break or the lenses get scratched, they repair or replace at no cost. If I recall, it didn't cost much. Good luck! Dixie hearing aids & glasses > Hi....I am Allana's mom. Allana is 2 1/2 years old, and wears behind > the ear hearing aids for a severe/profound loss. Guest guest
We use a strap across the back of the head to hold the glasses in place. My daughter has bifocals that need to be kept in the right alignment and and not allowed to slide down the nose. We have soft straps with a push up wooden bead, and they come in lots of colors, so they can match the outfits, when that becomes of interest to her. My other daughter who wore glasses at an early age has cerebral palsy, and her glasses had a type of bow that included elastic straps that went over and behind the head. Unfortunately, the elastic lost its springiness very quickly. It did help, though. Judith Longman hearing aids & glasses Hi....I am Allana's mom. Allana is 2 1/2 years old, and wears behind the ear hearing aids for a severe/profound loss. Allana also has a moderate to high degree of farsigtedness,(she can't see things close to her), and just got her glasses today. I was wondering if anyone else has had a child that had to wear both hearings and glasses, and if anyone has any advice to help keep them on. We are going to get a strap to try. Allana has some strange behaviors, I think related to her hl, such as shaking her head a lot. I think it is going to be a challenge keeping the glasses on. I am also so afraid she is going to break them. She wore her hearing aids with no problems since the first day she got them, so I'm hoping she will do the same with the glasses, but from what I saw today, I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Bobbie eGroups Sponsor All messages posted to this list are private and confidential. Guest guest
This sounds like a product I got for my daughter, which works great for her. The website is http://www.clis.com/zoe/. doesn’t use eyeglasses, but she needed something to keep her HAs from flopping off when she did flips in gymnastics. It has worked great for her. Guest guest
Hello Bobbie, My name is Colleen , I have been out of the loop for a while, and scanning my emails as I can. My daughter le was two in September and she has BTE aids and Glasses also. She has been wearing glasses for about 4 months, she is getting much better with them, but still constantly pulls them off. She is legally blind in her left eye and doesn't get a whole lot of benefits from the glasses which could be one of the problems they are more for protection to protect the right eye. She has been alot better with them but not great. And usually when she pulls the glasses off the hearing aids come out with out. It is very frustrating at times but we will the battle. It took me forever to keep the hearing aids in, and it finally worked one day. So keep the faith it will get easier. le has a moderate to severe loss. Guest guest
Colleen, Thanks for the response. It is encouraging to her that your daughter is so young and that she is keeping the glasses on for at least a little bit of time. Allana just got her glasses and is only keeping them on for about a minute at a time. She has also been wanting to pull her aids out now, and she has never done that before. She has worn her aids 100% of the time since she's got them, now lately she's taking them out. I don't know why. Maybe she just discovered that she can. Anyway....thanks again. Guest guest
Bobbie, I should of added that in the very beginning, probably for the first two or three weeks le also pulled her glasses off the minute you walked away from her. Then I would just put them right back on. We used alot of praise, things like big girl and you look so pretty. We also pointed out to her everyone that has glasses on. I think that also helped. I never thought for a minute she would keep them on. We had such a battle with keeping the hearing aids in, I thought there was no way the glasses were going to stay on. But I was wrong. Now she uses both the hearing aids and the glasses as an attention getter. She knows if she takes them off we will stop what we are doing to put them back on. It was close to 7 months before she finally left the hearing aids alone. I know how frustrating it can be. It seems like we conquer one battle than there's another one waiting. I hope Allana gets use to them soon. Take care Colleen Mom to 6 (hearing) le 2 (hoh) BJBaker25@... wrote: > Colleen, > Thanks for the response. Guest guest
Hi, my name is . My twin boys have worn both hearing aids and glasses since they were two. They are now twelve. LensCrafters was a big help with getting us glasses that would stay on with their hearing aids. Our first children's glasses had around the ear arms. They are rubber and can be bent back into shape. They had no problems with their hearing aids. You may want to look into a type of children's glasses like this. As they got older, they didn't seem to have any problems with regular glasses.
