Guest guest
>Did you all know that Onstar cannot give law enforcement agencies the location of a vehicle, unless the vehicle is entered as stolen, or the driver is reported missing.< I think, in the future, many limitations will be put on OnStar type systems... While the benefits of the system are many, there is also the possibility of abuse and privacy issues. Weintraut
Guest guest
They don't have a program in place to give you information in exigent circumstances without a supoena? The cellular companies can do this, why can't Onstar? Guest guest
My one and only OnStar call was a panic button and the car was tracked by OnStar but by the time we got to the vehicle the engine was cold however the driver had taken the route we were given but it was far from " real time " . The OnStar rep was nice and kept giving updates on the vehicle location. Luckily it turned out the panic button had been pushed by a dog riding in the front seat and there was no true emergency so I was up disapointed by the time lapse. That was several years ago. Wonder if OnStar has changed their policies over time? Kathy

GOOD IDEA!! thanks.. jamie in iowa

Guest guest
> I'll give you another tip about the fine folks at Onstar if you weren't > aware > of this...I sure wasn't. I wasn't either until the other night. We received a call from Onstar via a neighboring agency. I had 4 deputies in the right position for once, called Onstar back for an update and they didn't know what I was talking about. They informed me they don't track, had no information of value, etc. Worthless, imho. Hope they have a concierge service for their members because I don't what else of value they provide. Sorry, I don't like to have my time wasted. Walt

So, how the hell does Onstar know whether or not the vehicle is " entered as stolen " ? Lie to them - Hell, tell them the driver is missing. They are missing if you can't talk to them. There are as many ways around an idiot or an idiot bureaucracy as there points on a compass. God knows I have been charting a course through governments for forty years.
