Guest guest
Hi , Yes, infection is certainly a cause of hives for some people. You may want to have a CBC, a Chem 20, testing for Hepatitis B and C, h-pylori, see a ENT if you thing sinus infection or obstruction could be involved and see a dentist who has very extensive state of the art xray............ which can pick up even the slightest sign of infection. My daughter's cause proved to be an infection which remained hidden for over 5 years..... it was dental. When she was young she fell and broke off her two front teeth, later she had to have a root canal on one of these teeth and the dentist didn't canal a second root...... unusual presentation.......... and by not doing so, he left it infected for over 5 years. As Jackie explained this is what is known as an "occult infection". In my daughter's case she had repeated CBC's but her original high white count was blamed on other things........ such as, we were told that she probally had a case of EBV even though the EBV test was negative. After some time the white count dropped low and finally "normalized" in the low range...................that was explained away as "just being her". By then the mast cells had taken on the role of the white cells by degranulating every time some physical challenge (heat, cold or exercise) triggered them....... hence she developed hiving at these physical challenges. was also someone who got worse every time she got a cold or flu......... too much overload for an already struggling system. So, if this seems to be the route for you, I would sure chase this trail down before I looked at any other options. Also, if you don't have a Dr who will listen, find one........... our best Dr was an immunologist Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, throw them out there........... there are a lot of nice people here who will listen and try to answer them for you.
