Debbie,

She has recieved correction from her cranio cap but she had severe

plagio on one side and it has improved about 60-70% I'd say but she

still has a pretty flat spot. She turns 1 on Tuesday and I am

frustrated that the Cranio Surgeon says to let " nature do the rest " .

I was like " hello...if that was the case I wouldn't have even put

her in a helmet period " ...LOL. I am just not sure what are " other "

options are. We are going to Hanger and I know they will do cranip

cap and DOC band and more but not sure what yet. What other types of

bands are there??

Hello Ann

I think Hanger also does the STARband. I'm not 100% certain

though. Do you have CT anywhere close, or would you consider angle

flight? I think that if you still see the flat and you think there

would be more correction I would take her again to be evaluated. I

do think that if the plagio was severe to begin with one

cap/band/helmet sometimes just doesn't cut it. trust your instincts.

Hi Ann (and Sandy),

I did not know that Hanger offered the CranioCap... the only places

I know of where the CranioCap is offered are in Minnesota affiliated

with Gillette Children's, who designed that particular cap and had

it FDA approved in 2000. Ann, this would be a new learning for me if

you find out that Hanger does indeed do the CranioCap.

From what I can tell, there are basically two types of business

models for bands/helmets - one, the company designs, fabricates, and

offers the band/helmet themselves at their own company facilities

(example DOCband, Fit-Well, Ballert), and two, the facility designs,

fabricates, and offers the band/helmet for ordering and delivering

to orthos not affiliated with their company who would like to use

their product (example Starband, Danmar, possibly Becker. ) I am

sure there may be exceptions, though, and would love to know of any

so that we are passing along the correct info about options.

I have only known that Hanger is a huge orthotics and prosthetic

company with over 600 locations in the US, but helmets/bands are not

available at all locations. Hanger does offer their own brand of

band, active, FDA approved, called the Hanger Cranial Band at these

Hanger facilities. Depending on the ortho at that particular

Hanger, the ortho may also decide to order the Starband (active and

FDA approved) from the Orthomerica company, and offer it to

patients.

Please keep us posted on your Hanger consult, and do let us know

what types of helmets and bands are being offered there!

Take care,

I have taken in a ton of info in the past few weeks since Hope

outgrew her Cranio Cap so it is possible I am confusing things or I

have taken what someone told me and confused it with what the Ortho

Tech told me at Hanger :) I thought the Ortho tech told me they

could make her a new Cranio Cap if needed but maybe she just

meant " something like it " ...LOL.

Well, we have an apt at Gillette tommorrow for a Cranio Cap fitting

and I am just gonna tell the Ortho Tech that we are done with her

Cap because it is too small and she keeps taking it off and it

barely stays on her head. We have an apt at Hanger in a wk so I will

update you as to what they say. She will either get " something " new

or be done I guess. Not much more I can do, right?

Thanx for the help.
