Guest guest
What I have tried in the past the worked was Magnesium at bedtime, a larger cortiosl dose(I always need 5MG to sleep) and eating protein at bedtime. how long have you been on the cortef? If less than 2 weeks you may still be high at night. When you build the dose more in the daytime thta will change. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I do take magnesium at night, as well as 5-HTP and theanine. Even the sleeping pill didn't work though. I have only been on cortef for 5 days. Yesterday I ended up having a 3rd dose of 2.5 mg at 2:45, because I was getting cold and shaky. I took about 1.5 mg HC at 11 last night, because I wasn't sleeping. I woke up still shaky this morning. I took the 2.5 mg HC about 2 hours ago. I don't think it has done anything...I am still shaky. I don't feel hot or cold. My body temp is 98.8, but I just got out of the shower and I am drinking warm green tea. I feel irritable with absolutely no patience. It is very difficult for me to distinguish low cortisol symptoms from hyperT symptoms. Maybe these are hyper symptoms since I feel energy but fatigue in the background (if that makes any sense). Guest guest
I could be wrong, and you may want to wait for Val to pipe in, but it sounds to me like you need to be more aggressive in increasing your dosing of the cortef. If seems that you body is really tryinig to get your attention that it needs more. When I started taking it (and I'm by no means saying this is what you should do) I started at 5mg twice a day and was up to 20mg (5mg 4 times a day) within a week. I know you've said that you seem to be sensitive to medications but perhaps the reason you've been so sensitive to them is because you've been so low in cortisol. Just tossing out some food for thought :-) Barb in New Orleans > > I do take magnesium at night, as well as 5-HTP and theanine. Guest guest
One easy way to tell hyper thyroid from low cortisol symptoms is take your temp. If it is below 99 it is NOT hyperthyroid. I agree it sounds like your body is soaking up the HC too fast and just needs more. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Can high iodine supplementation drain cortisol? When I was feeling very hyperT, my saliva test showed hypoT. 10 days prior, my blood TSH was low, which makes me think the iodine was increasing thyroid hormone but it couldn't get into the cells due to low cortisol. Can sweating and feeling hot be a low cortisol symptom too, as long as temp is below 99? When I was on the iodine, I was sweating more than usual. I don't think it was excessive. I think it might have been normal, but I am not used to it. Thanks, Olif
Guest guest
>>Can high iodine supplementation drain cortisol? << not drain cortisol but stress the adrenals YES. Just liek every dose increase of thyroid meds streses the adrneals iodine's pushng the metab9lism up could also stress the adrenals. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
>>Can sweating and feeling hot be a low cortisol symptom too, as long as temp is below 99?<, Absolutely! it can also be a symptom of hypoglycemia from low cortisol. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Thanks, ! I think all this time that I thought I was hyper from iodine, I was just stressing my already stressed adrenals! -Olif
Guest guest
You and I sound like twins---I'm having the same problems with sleeping and dosing. Not sleeping is absolutely the worst for adrenals and I hope we can both get it corrected soon. > > After having a good evening yesterday, I was up all night last night. :-( > > Yesterday, I had my last dose of HC at 2:45. I felt really good in the evening. I felt sleepy around my usual time, but when it was time for bed, I just couldn't sleep. I tried to take some HC around 11. I took my smallest piece, so it was probably about 1.5-2 mg. I wasn't sure if I should have taken it and my internet was down, so I couldn't ask. > > It did seem to relax me a bit, but I still couldn't sleep. At 1 a.m. I took an OTC sleep med, and it didn't work. Well, I might have slept a little here and there, but it felt like I was up all night. > > So, is it low cortisol that kept me up or too much thyroid hormone? I wasn't hot or cold. My body temp was about 97.6, which is probably okay for night. I didn't have a rapid heart rate, just restlessness/mind racing. > > Now, I am wondering if some of the nights that I thought I was hyper from low doses of iodine was actually low cortisol. If cortisol increases and thyroid hormone is able to get into my cells better, does that drain cortisol? Like it is all quickly used up getting thyroid hormone into the cells, because my cells have been starving for it?! > > I have to work today. :-( I hate days at work with no sleep. > > Thanks, > Olif

Guest guest
My temp has sunk lower since starting HC--at my worst was unreadable on my thermometer. That seems really weird. I started a month ago and should be up to full dose now, but the insomnia and fast heart rate is making it difficult. > > : > " One easy way to tell hyper thyroid from low cortisol symptoms is take > your temp. Guest guest
I tried around 1 mg. and then the 2.5 and it didn't help, kind of made the pounding heart worse. My heart feels funny, too. I can't stand to lie on my left side, because I feel my heart thumping the bed. I did a sauna treatment today and my heart has slowed down to normal. I feel so much better and am very sleepy and relaxed, so I'm hoping tonight will be a good night. > I have noticed that my heart feels " funny.
