Well, that's not a terrible mistake, as soy oil was originally legal

and only became illegal after time due to some feedback that

soy protein can remain in the oil.

See:

So, there may not be much of a setback. Since in this case,

you don't know whether the oil contains proteins or not, and

your husband is a beginner, just toss it and remake the mayonnaise.

I recommend either sunflower or safflower oil for the best taste.

Regards,

Mara

Thank you Mara! I was having a small conniption over here. I'll try

the oils you suggested next time.

Thanks again,

Maureen

Maureen,

Elaine originally said that soy oil was not an issue. She was, however,

adamant about other soy products not being used. (She did state, in

answer to a query of mine, that soy-based lecithin was okay, although she

though it better to use egg yolks if you wanted to add lecithin to your

diet. She also said that soy-derived Vitamin E was all right.) I know

that people on the Pecan Bread list choose not to use soy oil because

some of the ASD kids are hyper sensitive to anything soy. Some other

people are concerned about soy oil because so much soy is

gene-modified.

I myself don't use soy oil because I have issues with soy. (I tend to

stop breathing.) Besides, there are so many other oils that I like much,

much better! For mayo, I like safflower or sunflower, although I

sometimes use half sunflower and half coconut oil when I want a very

thick mayo.

However, I can say that I've used lecithin, and Vitamin E derived from

soy without issue, and I inadvertently had some mayo made with soy oil

during one of my trips. I didn't stop breathing (thank goodness!) and to

my surprise, didn't have any problems with the mayo. Other folks may have

had issues, and if so, I hope they'll speak up.

I would say to hold off on introducing new foods for a day or two and see

how your husband fares. Stay with current easily tolerated foods. Then,

if he's okay, proceed on.

Don't beat yourself up -- but you can see why we typically recommend

removing all illegals from the pantry and freezer! There's just so darned

much to remember and it's so easy to slip up. Glad SCD is already

helping!
