Guest guest
Congratulations ! We have other members who have had babies after their " plagio baby " that I'm sure will chime in. I'm sure I'll be paranoid as well! , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma > I have a question for those of you who have had children AFTER a > child who had to wear a helmet/band. Guest guest
Hi , Boy do I know what you are going through. My entire pregnancy with andra I worried about her having tort and plagio like Aidan. I would stay up nights thinking about it, worrying about something that had not even yet occurred. Here is what I did: At the hospital I had them give her a really thorough neck exam. Checking for tightness and/or a mass. Luckily she was born with a perfect head (one push). Every nurse commented on it, kind of bitter sweet with Aidan there (his was perfect at birth too but tort changed all that). Once at home, I started tummy time from Day One. If only for a couple of minutes several times a day. I also had her sleep on my chest at night for the first 6 weeks. Rotating her head every time I would wake. During the day, she mostly napped in the bassinett. I used a sleep positioner with a little pillow and would turn her head from side to side every 30 minutes. If you are breastfeeding you will automatically change each side but if you bottlefeed change the side you feed her on each feeding. I have not used a bouncy chair and have limited the swing time to less than 15 minutes and even then, in extreme need, like while cooking dinner. andra is now almost 3 months and I think that her head looks great. I have days when I overanalyze it but I really do think that is about perfect. I know that this all sounds time consuming, especially when you have other children but the main point is just to make sure that they are never in the same position for a lengthy period of time. It will be so much better for you this time around because you will know that to look for from Day One so you can be proactive in your plagio prevention. Congrats on your pregnancy! Feel free to email me off board if you need to talk. Guest guest
Hi, I am currently pregnant, and already preparing to make some changes with the new baby in hopes of preventing brachy/plagio. First, I am not going to gain the huge amount of weight I did with Remy (she was an inflated 9 1/2 lbs. and squished in utero before birth.) I am also going to get a crib mattress that's not as hard as the one I used with Remy. I'm going to use the baby bjorn and bumbo baby seat when I can, and pretty much do everything Natasha said she is currently doing!! I don't have any science to back it up, but I worry that the new baby may also have a general susceptability to plagio, so I am going to go overboard with preventive measures! Guest guest
I would have to agree that our babies may be plagio prone (it may run in the family?).....my first son had/has plagio which I didn't notice until age 5 1/2 mnths, I repo'd him from then until 12 mnths and thankfully now at age 2 1/2 he looks fine - mind you, being mom, I can still see it! Anyway when my second son was born (8 mnths ago) I ; - did sleep him on his back at first(then repo'd soon after) but on a softer mattress, - kept him off his back ALWAYS during the day - slept him on tummy and sides for naps - put a pillow behind his head (on my arm) when feeding Guess what - he still got a flat spot! In fact, he seems to be extremely plagio susceptible! If I hadn't had the experience I'd had with my older son I would have never been on the lookout for it and I believe he would have a severely crooked head. I constantly repo'd him off the side that consistently appeared larger and only because of the does he have a normal shaped head. Even now I am still repo'ing, his head is a bit flat in the back and some minor bulging at temples, despite being sooo careful! Not to scare you but that's my experience. Good news is since we are aware all will be okay! If I ever have a third (I won't, but hypothetically speaking) I don't think I'd sleep him on his back EVER!!!
