Guest guest
that is why the British royals - even Princess Di had all of their fillings replaced As noted by the web artilce, the urine fractionated porphyrin test is done by labs in the U.S. like Lab Corp and Great Plains; however the FDA does not allow U.S. labs to provide information and explanations that deal with issues like mercury or metals toxicity. For political reasons they don't admit that mercury can cause health problems, if they did they would have a big liability because they have allowed mercury to be used in dental fillings from which people get high mercury exposures. Scientists and patient support organizations like DAMS have been pushing them to ban or restrict use of mercury in dentistry for years, but FDA has resisted claiming they are not aware of mercury causing harm. Even though there are thousands of peer-reviewed studies documenting it, millions of medical tests and clinical cases, documentation by government organizations like U.S. EPA and ASTDR and from Sweden, Germany, Japan, WHO, etc. www.flcv.com/damspr1.html If you get the fractionated porphyrin test done by a lab like Lab Corps, you can ask about the results on a forum like this or to someone like me or Leo at DAMS. We have a lot of experience with all of the tests for mercury. I will likely be going to work in a year or so for a medical clinic overseeing tests, not just for mercury. I've begun getting training for the certification that I need. The porphyrin test is not about mercury level or toxics level, but of metabolic damage that has been done by toxics. The level of waste porphyrins indicates degree of metabolic damage, and the pattern of which porphyrins are in the urine indicate the likely cause of the damage. The article notes that precoproporphyrin is the one (still in the test) that most consistently indictes mercury. FDA had the best indicator of mercury taken from the test, but it still is a relatively good test. Before it was required to change it, it was better. Guest guest
Kate at least you know what is making you hurt for the most part. Arthritis can be very painful. You remain in our prayers. Hugs nne Hi all..apparently I have arthritis in my lumbar, as well as disc degeneration. So...I suppose I am to assume that is what the painis due to. I merely assumed it was MS.I am going to go to the pool now. Our town has a new pool, only cost $2 for my card, then I never pay, just show them my card.My eldest dtr is taking all 4 of her sibs out to the mall. Talk aboutgetting mauled at the mall on the Sat. before Christmas--she isa braver (and perhaps crazier) soul than I. I am so glad to go out swimming--and alone! That way I can con-centrate on doing laps. I've got to get in shape, and walking, sittingand standing are extremely painful now. The tizanidine just fogs meout, though it does help the pain. So, trying to stay away from it,but at bedtime, that and heating pad or ice are the only things that helprelieve it for any time.Hope all are well as we approach another holiday. Hannukah is over,Christmas and New Years, just a heartbeat away, it seems. I think I have gotten all I need to, apart from some dollar store items for thestockings. Guest guest
What a deal at your public pool. I am too embarrassed of my fat legs to go to a pool. I hope you enjoyed yourself--you deserve it!It's easy to assume that everything is MS related, isn't it? I am guilty of the same thin myself. How is your foot drop doing Kate? I wanted to ask you how it felt when it was coming on? How did the kids do at the mall? Guest guest
Although I have to pay $2.00 each time I swim at our public pool, I must admit that I love it. I have arthritis, too, all over, and my back has been a mess since I was about 13, so I LOVE the pool, and do not give a HOOT about what anyone things of any part of my anatomy. Besides, most of me is under the water anyway! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo! Kate, and Sharon, too, n > > > > > What a deal at your public pool. I am too embarrassed of my fat legs to go > to a pool. Guest guest
sharon, we could have a contest to see whose legs are fatter? That was the good part, no one was there, except the life guard. I swam for 40 minutes, on and off, but did probably about 30 laps. My foot drop is amazingly better, and I can only wonder if getting Tysabri into my system again is one of the answers...I don't know, and really don't care--it is better, and that is all that matters. The kids had a grand time at the mall. My sister, Ellen, who is the one with MS, is coming for a bit of time on Christmas. (only my eldest dtr knows she has MS, she wants no one to know bout it). I had my kids each choose a gift for their 'Aunt Mare'. They had fun. I bought her a cool lavender bike helmet when I went shopping yesterday: BY MYSELF! it was fun. I miss seeing Peggy here and a slew of other folk. I know everyone is more than likely addressing the at hand business of this season; all that needs doing, trimming, cleaning, etc. I am so sore with this back, trying to get the cleaning done. I am also trying to come up with a nice Christmas menu. I am thinking ham and salmon, which might be an odd combo, but I'd cook them separately of course. Do up a spiral ham with pineapple. Salmon with lots of garlic and dill. Then wild rice, lots of veggies: corn, brocolli, red pepper, green beans. Maybe some biscuits or muffins. I'm getting hungry! I'm on a 1200 cal diet and I'm doing quite well with it. So much easier to do when I write down and count the calories. Like for breakfast it seemed like so much food: 1/2 cup of yogurt=100;1 rice cake=50; 1 hardboiled egg=70; 1 clementine= 50, then some creamer in my coffee=30 for a tally of 300 cals. I still had 900 left! My sister and dtr.,Lia are all doing the 'buddy' diet system. It feels really good, and helps me feel in control. It is also helping my depression lift. I'm eating real good, healthy food and staying away from junk. Maybe too that is why my foot drop is better. who knows? Just glad it is! Sorry for the long posting. love to all ,Kate Hi all..apparently I have arthritis in my lumbar, as well as disc degeneration. So...I suppose I am to assume that is what the painis due to. Guest guest
$2 isn't so bad n. Not like these fancy-schmancy clubs around NY that cost hundreds to join and maintain! I love the pool. I swam for the first time in a loooonnng time. I was able to do my freestyle, sidestroke and breast stroke. The Speedo goggles I bought yesterday for a fairly benign $12.99 were so well worth it! No leaking AND despite my vision and needing glasses which I don't wear in the water, everything was 20/20 with the goggles. I didn't know they 'did' that! I think if not for the goggles I would have swam only 20 min. instead I swam for 40 minutes! I'm going to try to go after church today, the pool is open from 1 to 4pm. Then they are closed Mon and Tues, but reopening on Wed. There are real good hrs. for me, while the kids (not this wk) are at school. My 2008 goal is to be more consistent with swimming and exercise in general, and to lose a minimum of 40 lbs. I think I can accomplish that in a yr's time. Heck, if I could lose 5 lbs a month, that would be 60 lbs in a year! That is amazing to consider. I'm sorry you have arthritis, and 'everywhere'. Just this lumbar is so very painful. Do you take anything for it? I don't want to keep medicating, but the topical stuff only works for a short time. Do' you think arthritis and MS are somehow related, n? I'm happy to read you do swim. And yes, we shouldn't give one hoot about what folk think! I heartily agree! AND...in my case IF I want to get rid of those fat legs I have, I have got to get moving! love to you dear n, and all here! Guest guest
Gang, for me, every cent counts; as I became disabled when I was 53--more or less, and have not been able to work since, everything is expensive for me. But, that gripe out, I LOVE swimming--have done it since early child hood, and love freestyle most. I used to swim competitively. Well, I probably still get pretty assertive at it. It is probably the safest activity for anyone with many of the things that we wMS have. My mother swam only side-stroke; the main aim seemed to be to keep as much of the body DRY as possible. My father swam beautifully, and did not like it, though he, too, did have MS. All six of us in my family grew up just loving to swim. Keep it up, Kate! Love and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and to all of yours, n > > > > > > $2 isn't so bad n. Not like these fancy-schmancy clubs around NY > that cost hundreds to join and maintain! Guest guest
I totally understand the '$ thing' n, I didn't mean to suggest that $2 was an easy thing to always come up with--heck that is $10 for only 5 days of swimming; adds up for sure! Is there not a way to reduce it as you are a 'senior'--but not in MY book! and/or a way to make a deal for a flat fee for the year, that would be less costly or such? Just a thought... I love swimming too, n. There is nothing like the freedom of the weightless sensation of my body in water, and the sheer joy and pleasure of moving through it. lol about your mom trying to stay dry! All 6 kids in my family loved to swim; esp. we 3 younger in the group. Now my dad loved it also ,but my dear Mom experienced a trauma she never got over. Someone in 'play' held her down when she was young. It left such a mark on her, she was unable to ever in her 83 years, take a bath--only showers. I am always admonishing my kids with horseplay, that though water can be great fun, it is serious stuff as well, and no holding each other under EVER! well, I digress... I am impressed you swam competetively, though I can hear you are that sort of soul that enjoys a good challenge and competition! love to you my friend. And a blessed season, Christmas and a bountiful, healthy New Year! Start practicing writing that 2008! I always forget until about March or so! lol! hugs, Kate > >> >> >> > Hi all..apparently I have arthritis in my lumbar, as well as disc> > degeneration. Guest guest
being an Okie and living through water shortages growing up - I never learned to swim. Guest guest
My kids and I wanted spiral ham, along with the salmon, but of course, we got outvoted by one vote--husband. no ham. Anyways..yeah 1200 cal diet, which I pretty much blew yesterday, but hey, tomorrow is another and new day. I had the Tysabri about the 17th of December. Would you believe I had a reaction to it, even with 50mgs of benadryl? Holy Hannah, I mean, I probably do need to go off it. I am waiting a call back, which has never happened from the doc I'd seen in Manhattan at least a yr ago. I understand he does prescribe the LDN. I am feeling better since the Tysabri how- ever.
