Guest guest
Hi everyone, My meeting for Anika went well yesterday. There were eight adults (six from the program, myself and her childrens mental health social worker present) and of course Anika at this meeting. It took an hour and 15 minutes. Anika looked only slightly nervous, not ready to crawl out of her skin like she usually does at these meetings. Her social worker also noted a huge improvement and praised Anika for this after the meeting. Anika was actually able to hold it together!!! Praise the Lord. They basically said that Anika had adjusted well to the program (better than average) and was motivated to go through all of the initial requirements (and there are a lot of them as this place runs a really tight ship). They outlined what they expected Anika to work on in family, group and individual therapy. Mostly revolving around managing anxiety and coping better with disappointments. And social skills, like communicating her feelings and anxieties better, especially to her family, rather that resorting to self mutilating behavior. Nothing earth shattering. I get the impression that they consider her stuck at the emotional maturity level of a much younger child and the goal is to teach her skills to get her needs met in a more constructive manner and basically grow up and mature. Fortunately she is above average intelligence with no learning issues other than anxiety. Though she would like some indication of how long this is going to take, they are not willing to give her an answer at this point. This is fine with me. God is in control and I have good insurance LOL.
