(oops) ya know, till the ortho told me my shoulder problems was because of loose joints, and then told me I probably had all my joints loose, to which I quickly proved him right ... I thought this kind of stuff was normal! Are you sure not everyone can do that? Pk

Guest guest
Hi Tori and all, Mine are nearly the same, except when doing the 5-finger flex, my ring fingers are completely normal on both hands. All the others bend back, but they stick straight out. Looks really wierd--and I can't tell you how many times I've " jammed " them because the ring fingers don't bend like the others. Volleyball was a real pain! Also, the bottom joint on each of my thumbs totally dislocates by itself. When I learned how to write as a kid, my hands ached terribly--they still do--but the dislocating thumbs aren't really painful at all any more. I've also got silver ring splints, but mine don't fit so well and so I don't wear them as often as I should. Some days they help a lot; other days they are a pain and slow me down. Luckily I have great muscle strength and dexterity in my hands from years of sewing, playing piano, and typing, so I think that helps me. It's real important to get someone who knows what they're doing to fit your silver ring splints. It took my therapist about six months, sending them back and forth, to finally get them right--and I still don't think they fit all that good. Cheers,

Guest guest
Hi Tori, It was amazing watching the picture of your fingers unfold. Our son , who will be 8 this week, has fingers exactly like yours. He's not hypermobile everywhere, but his hands are very affected. We noticed when he was a baby that his fingers went funny ways but it wasn't until he was 4 that we realized it meant something. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Guest guest
ditto uhuh me too (is there an echo in here?) hehe one pic of one finger without ring splints: http://www.jojobeee.com/finger2-4x6.jpg One pic of my ring splints as they are today: http://www.jojobeee.com/myringsplints02.jpg I wear 8 on each hand, they are incredibly helpful. They're all swan-neck, some are double strength, and one (tip of the thumb, right hand) is triple-strength. Here's a pic of my shoulder, too: http://www.jojobeee.com/shoulder1.jpg I think I saw discussion about shoulder joints recently. I have not had any surgeries on mine, and don't plan to any time in the future. The way I figure, surgery probably won't make things better... just different. I'll keep'em the way they are, thank you. -- Sharon K http://www.jojobeee.com/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~* Try not to change the world; try to change your perception of the world.
