Guest guest
and Barbara; Many thanks for praying for me, I really appreciate it, it is so nice to know that I AM NOT ALONE, not only with the CU but with planning my next pregnancy! , CONGRATULATIONS for you and your husband and for the CUTE HEALTHY BABY!!!! I have some questions for you I hope you can answer them ... 1)How bad was your CU when you got pregnant? 2)Were you taking meds at that time? If so which ones?? 3)Did you take meds after you realized you were pregnant? 4)At what stage did you realize that your CU was improving? Many thanks for reading this, and for having such empathy when you answered my mail! I wish your family the very best for this 2001!!! Guest guest
Marcela, My CU was the same as it always was when I got pregnant. (Hives every day no matter what and required meds several times a day to keep under control.) I was taking Doxepin but in the process of switching back to Atarax when I got pregnant. My OB said too take Atarax; however, I read it was contraindicated in early pregnancy due possible increase in birth defects (found in lab rats). I was a nervous wreck, but he seemed to know what he was saying. He told me they often prescribe atarax to women who have severe morning sickness. I might add he was a new doctor for me. My last one kept telling me to take Claritin, but I kept telling him it didn't work. He would never give me a straight answer on whatelse I could take. Guess he was afraid to committ. I got off the Doxepin probably about one week into the pregnancy. I am told that in the early weeks of pregnancy nothing much gets to the fetus. When I found out I was pregnant another doctor in my doctor's office told me to not take the Atarax, but to take Benedryl. Benedryl did not work!! I went back to the Atarax, but first tried another med I heard about from my old dermatologist (his wife was on it when she was pregnant). This med is called Polarmine, it is a very old antihistimine and very rarely prescribed. I had a hard time locating a pharmacy that would order it for me. I finally got the Polarmine, but it didn't work, so back to Atarax. I would let my hives get bad before I would take a pill. I wanted to minimize the exposure as much as possible in the first trimester. I took lots of cool/luke warm baths to help with the itching. I also lost time from work because of the hives. It was not fun those first couple of weeks after finding out I was pregnant. After 14 weeks, I relaxed a bit and took the meds as soon as my hives started up. I got down to taking 12.5 mg (had to cut 25 mg in 1/2) a day. It was wonderful. I still stressed the whole time about the effects on the baby. I had a level two sonogram to ease my mind about birth defects. Definitely something you should request to also ease your mind when you get pregnant again. As far as when did I notice an improvement in the hives, it was pretty much right after I found out I was pregnant. I wish I knew why they got so much better during pregnancy. In any event, 6 weeks post partum the hives came back rearing their ugly head and driving me nuts. Taking Doxepin and it exhausts me. Nothing else works, so it is Doxepin for me until I want to try for another baby. Someone in this e group mentioned something about dental amalgams possibly being a cause. I have been doing some research on this and am considering getting my mercury filings removed. This is a last ditch effort after I try this total food avoidance diet that I am planning at the end of this month after consulting with the allergist again. I am just not satisfied that food allergies were completely ruled out. They have never been able to do the scratch tests on me because I can't get off the meds long enough. They did the RAST tests, but I have read they are not very accurate. Will see what this diet does or doesn't do. Sorry this is so long. I just haven't had anyone to talk to about all this except my husband. I think my husband understands to a point, but I think sometimes he might get tired of hearing about all this stuff. Feels good to get it out. It really drives me nuts when people tell me it is nerves!! Has anyone else heard this so called theory? That is just crazy and if it was my nerves, then why do I wake up with hives???????????/ > and Barbara; > Many thanks for praying for me, I really appreciate it, it is so nice to > know that I AM NOT ALONE, not only with the CU but with planning my next > pregnancy! > , CONGRATULATIONS for you and your husband and for the CUTE HEALTHY > BABY!!!! > I have some questions for you I hope you can answer them ... > 1)How bad was your CU when you got pregnant? > 2)Were you taking meds at that time?
