Guest guest
Good for you Jeff!!! We all need a vacation now and then. I was on vacation a couple weeks ago, and enjoyed it immensly. Spent 4 nights in Kentucky at a big Southern Gospel music convention. It was like heaven on earth. Vacation always seems to come at the right time too, but it is always too short. What does everybody else do to relax or to get away? Adam Festus MO 911 Communications

Guest guest
I am wondering what type of vacation a person in this line of work takes? I go storm chasing each year for about 2 weeks, and a week at the beach. I am also going to the National Punkin-Chunkin in Delaware this year. Larew nc911@... Guest guest
I get four weeks vacation a year, and normally spend them teaching at 9-1-1 centers or different seminars in our state. Next year will be the exception. I'm taking three weeks off, and my children and I are hopping in the car and going to Canada - with a detour on the way home through New York to say Hi to my console list friend . I can't wait. Guest guest
Second week of August, we are pulling out of SE Ohio in our new camper and heading 1-2 hours west/northwest of Denver to visit friends for a couple of days and then figure out where we want to go on the way home over the two weeks before we have to go back to work. Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Badlands are among current favorites although taking my wife into Utah to see where we worked and played while dispatching at the Olympics hasn't been ruled out either. Guest guest
> > What does everybody else do to relax or to get away? > > Adam ******************************************************************** OK everybody in the Tub with Cully..... One relaxing thing is to drive home after work with no radio on, just quiet. Once in a while I'll turn on ESPN Sports radio but that's it. OR I will get a job doing DJ work for a dance or party, OR just vegetate at home, watch a NASCAR race and drink a beer. I know one dispatcher with a scanner, and leaves it on 24/7. OH My. Guest guest
Diane, you made me laugh... My definition is backpack, tent, sleeping bag and at least 5 miles between me and the trailhead. My best friend's definition is backpack, sleeping bag, tent (optional, weather-dependent) and 10 miles PER DAY between her and her last camp point or the trailhead. She got confused when I said that wasn't camping, that was hiking for days at a time. Entirely different activity. Speaking of my friend and vacations, she and I are driving from my home in Oregon to her home in California... All 760 miles (one way) of it. That's really mind-boggling when I stop to think about the fact that we're not even talking about the entire length of California combined with the entire length of Oregon... Hannah is probably planning to have me go " camping " (her definition) with her while we're down there because she asked if I have a sleeping bag and a backpack... Oh well. She's really good at remembering that I consider 10 miles in a day (even over flat ground) to be SERIOUS physical activity, not just " a decent workout. " I suppose I really shouldn't expect much else from a girl who just got back from Army airborne school and was bummed because she thought it was too wimpy. *grin* Angie --- " Diane Gagnon " <diane.gagnon@u...> wrote: > I like camping....but my definition (my parents 40 ft park model > trailer in the berkshires with real beds) and my sig other's > definition (peeing in the woods....) just don't seem to > mesh....we're working on a happy medium (a tent but plumbing nearby > FOR SURE - I'm not giving on that one) and planning on doing that > in the fall sometime...fall in VT is the best time (IMHO) to > camp.... Guest guest
You know I used to listen to the scanner all the time. I don't quite have the enthusiasm I once had for scanners. When visiting my parents, right after hugging mom, (a man can hug his momma cant he?) I walk straight to their scanner and turn it down.
