Guest guest
Hi guys, finally time to reply on the weather thread. We had a bit of ice storms here. With probably 5 to 6 inches of snow due over the weekend. I've been pretty tired here this week. Cold weather and or snow and ice always means extra work in my job. We have had ice storms here before that were worse as far as leaving ice in trees and knocking down limbs. This time even though we got little ice in the trees the streets were awful. We got rain on top of the ice. Now my work van (think frito lay type step van or larger van like UPS) is horrible to drive in any snow or ice. My personal van is front wheel drive and I get in it and it says 'what ice?' Not this time. Even was sliding around bad in personal van. So work truck was a nightmare. Then when the temps dip down in the low 20's I have to take all my pop off of truck overnight and reload in the mornings. I typically carry 70 cases of canned and 8 cases of bottle. I can usually cut this in half during bad weather by guessing what I will use per day. Still it is very tiring to off load and reload. I do have chain ice cleats that I can put on over my shoes so I don't slide as much on the ice. This time with the rain was even slipping some just walking on the ice. So far this week first two days creaped around town l5 miles an hour. By the way the first day I knew was really bad. 6:30 in the morning had to pull over three times on main street (also major highway) fir a sherrifs car and two ambulances red light and siren. Had to pull over off the lane and a half that street crews had cleared onto the parking area not cleared. Sliding all the way. Then looked back and what the heck the vehicle I pulled over for is still three blocks away. They were going 20 with their sirens and lights going and were about 6 blocks apart. Didn't know there were three vehicles because they come around a corner. I came home every night ate a bite and had hot tea then laid down and napped till bedtime. I wear insulated overalls so I kept fairly warm. But in the thaw the other day had water seep into one of my boots the last hour at work, yuk.
