We are a " plain language " department. However there are still several 10

codes and a few signal codes that we use daily.

You find that in most agencies, and I really don't have a problem

with it, but when you try to do away with all the codes, and go

entirely to " plain language " ..

You just lose a " flow " ....

And the longer it continues the Dispatchers tend to become more

lax in the " plain language " and it becomes more like a telephone

conversation.

I truly believe you lose professionalism.

For those of us who have been around a while, we remember

when codes were much more prevalent.

We remember what it sounded like then, and we know what

it sounds like now... believe me... there is a huge difference.

I think 10 codes make Dispatchers sound much more professional.

And believe me... if you sound professional, you are more

thought of as professional, and I believe, when you are

thought of a professional, you work harder to BE more

professional.

The better you get, the better you want to be.
