Guest guest
Tina, An e-mail is no good. You must get a physical letter, on the company's letterhead, and signed by them to verify ingredients. An e-mail can be dashed off by anyone -- and most of the time, people who answer e-mails and phone inquiries don't really know. It is so EASY to make your own applesauce: wash, peel, core half a dozen apples. Put them in a heavy saucepan over low heat (I use a double boiler) and cook until soft. Then whiz it up with a hand-held blender. Presto, SAFE applesauce with no chance of additives they don't mention. Many of the turkey products have other stuff. Get your own hormone free, additive free turkey and roast it. Slice it. It tastes better, and it's safe. The time you spend hunting for legal commercial products can be spent making your own food, which is safe. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund At 09:33 AM 5/13/2008, you wrote: FYI. Guest guest
FYI, Even if you get info from a company about their ingredients, it's still not considered " SCD approved " and thus is used at one's own personal discretion. While there are some products for which we have gotten letters directly from the companies that we feel comfortable using (organic apple sauce, lemon juice, etc), we only do so when the hubby is completely normal otherwise and feeling 100 percent. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using such products during an introductory phase of the diet or when just starting out, but that's just me. beth (husband UC 5.5 yrs, scd 11 mo) > > > > FYI. > > > > I have been e-mailing some companies to check and see if their > products > > have added things. Guest guest
Thanks for the tips Marilyn, Can you recommend a brand of turkey that is additive free? This year's Christmas bird was THIRTY POUNDS! I almost couldn't fit the darn thing in my oven! We ate really well Christmas day, and we're still working on That Huge Bird. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Besides needing a hand-written letter, another thing to be aware of is that the applesauce is likely to be made from raw apples and not cooked, which can make a difference early in the diet. mom to -12, SCD 4/23/04 Pecanbread Moderator
Guest guest
So does that mean that you could use the musselman's applesauce for baking? Then it would be cooked right? > >> > Besides needing a hand-written letter, another thing to be aware of is > that the applesauce is likely to be made from raw apples and not > cooked, which can make a difference early in the diet. > > > mom to -12, SCD 4/23/04 > Pecanbread Moderator >
