Guest guest
Has anyone been here? My daughter, 10 months, has Brachycephaly, just from being on her back too much as an infant. Unfortunately, her head is still flat. Pediatrician is very agains DOC band. Just wanted to know if anyone had been to this particular place in ndale, VA. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group! I checked the Helmet/Band Database to see if any group members' emails were listed that have been to the ndale Cranial Tech location for the DOCband, but none were listed unfortunately! I'm sure anyone who has been there will reply if they see your post! I'm very disheartened to hear that your ped. is " against the DOCband. " I don't know if that means the DOCband brand, or helmets and bands in general. There are over 20 unique helmets and bands approved by the FDA for treatment of plagio, brachy, and scapho. Brachycephaly can take longer to correct, as shown in a recent study (LINKS/PLAGIO STUDIES AND RESEARCH folder,) and at 10 months, your daughter is nearly an older baby. Her best option for maximum correction may very well be an active band like the DOCband. Did your pediatrician advise you to try aggressive repositioning when you flagged your concerns about her flatness? How long have you been trying repositioning therapy? The American Academy of Pediatrics published guidelines for treatment of plagio in July 2003, where they mentioned that, if after trying 2-3 months or so of repo, no improvement was seen in the baby's head, that a referral to a specialist would be warranted for evaluation for other treatment, ie. banding and helmeting. How would you rate the severity of your daughter's brachy? We have some evaluation graphs in the LINKS/SEVERITY ASSESSMENT folder. We have many members in this group with experience with the DOCband. From what I have read, Cranial Tech is held in high regard. They have a unique business model, in that they design, manufacture, provide extensive ortho trianing, and provide patient service in their own Cranial Tech facilities. I'm sure you will hear from other DOCband parents in reply to your post. We even have progress photos you may want to look at in the PHOTOS/BEFORE AND AFTER/DOCBANDS section. Please let us know if we can help in any way. We have a lot of data on the efficacy of the DOCband in the LINKS/PLAGIO STUDIES AND RESEARCH folder, and also the AAP guidelines on plagio treatment in the LINKS/AAP folder. Guest guest
We used the Atlanta CT location but I hope someone will respond to you. CT has a great reputation treating plagio. I'm sure that you will be in excellent hands. Natasha --- In Plagiocephaly , " allieberg " <allieberg@y...> wrote: > Has anyone been here? Guest guest
My son Ian was treated there for his brachy April and May of 2003. We were so pleased with the treatment and his head is amazing!!! Pike is the OT that we worked with and she was great. She knew her stuff, answered all of our questions and made us feel comfortable about the entire thing. We live in Centreville so it was only a short ride for us. If you have any other questions, you can email me. karst@... Kate Mom to Ian (Doc Grad June 2003) Northern VA --- In Plagiocephaly , " allieberg " <allieberg@y...> wrote: > Has anyone been here?
