Guest guest
> Hi All > I had a bone scan 2 weeks ago and at my last doctors visit she had > not yet received the report. Well today I received a call from the > doctors office asking me to come in and get a script to get another > bone scan. They told me it was request from the x-ray technician and > the wanted to do a follow up. The bone scan initially was to see if > there maybe any kind of bone cancer and was done before the RSD > diagnose. Does anyone think that it sounds kinda weird that the tech > would contact the doctor for a follow up? Shouldn't they have told me > they would need a follow up? Just wandering if anyone has any ideas > or if this has happened to them. > Tim > PS: Thinking they found something and want to make sure. Kinda scared > here:( ********************** Dear Tim, Regarding your bone scan. #1) The report should have been ready when you saw your physician, the test is generally read by the radiologist the same day or the following day. I get my reports by fax or mail, sometimes not at all – but when any of my patients come in my office and I have not received a report from lab, x-rays or whatever – my staff calls the facility where the test was done and gets the report (either verbal or written) while the patient is still at my office. #2) No reason for you to have to struggle in pain or have to have Cliff take you to that doctors office to get another script – the office can call or fax the order to the testing facility – I commonly do this with my older patients, handicapped patients and ones out of town. They could even mail it to you along with scheduling the test themselves – I also have my staff do this often – facilities will generally get patients in quicker when we are the ones calling instead of the patients. Enough of that rambling – I get so frustrated hearing about how you all are treated by your physician. I still work, have just this week reduce my hours again, now I am at 3 hours per day – I cannot cope nor function with the pain and other dysfunction of my RSD any longer than that anymore in my office – I just keep reducing hours and days more and more – I am getting frightened now - more about that in another email. (Warned you all before that I ramble) #3) Regarding the tech calling the doctor – At one of the hospitals I work with, I trust the tech more than the radiologist and myself. He knows his stuff and will call me if he saw something of great concern to him and will suggest what test I might want to consider as a following to further evaluate that region or concern, he again will state " I am not a doctor or radiologist but…. " I usually go with his thoughts unless there is underlying knowledge I have regarding the patient. So… No it is not unusual for a tech to do this… what is unusual is the way the doctors office said it " …the tech requested " . TIP for you all: Anytime you get xrays, CT, MRI, etc – request a copy of the films be made for you to take before and after the test is done – that way for sure you will at least have the films and can take them to other doctors in the further. I do this and love it when a new patient beings in their films. (More than one of my referral physician I have seen did not look at my films I had took in – I only take the " bad ones " and they do not even look at the films at all – bill me $250.00 for the visit - I in turn – never will go back to them.) #4) Regarding the bone scan, it is not usually to do 1 or several OTHER types of scans (MRI, CT, PET, etc following an abnormal bone scan. Nor is it unusaly to do a full body bone scan if only one area done and it was abnormal. I insisted on having a full body scan done on myself after my foot bone scan was " hot " . BTW: my initial bone scan (6 months) after my symptoms stated was hot (very abnormal) – the radiologist blew it off as being gout or arthritis – I knew better – lucky for me I have an inside tract in the medical field – even then it has been very hard for me to get the care I need – have been blown off my many other doctors (have seen 19 this past year). They also respond much better if my spouse is in the room (also good to have her since I cannot remember things well anymore – she stands up for me and gets the point across). I really understood when you spoke of the tear in Cliffs eye during a lab test you mentioned several weeks ago in an email. Hope this helps, I have been worked up for cancer several times – in fact going through test for multiple mets right now – I keep saying " It's the RSD guys causing my personality change, moods, balance, bone pain, what ever, etc. – but they don't listen (actually they are just doing their job and are caring) but that causes so much more stress and anticipation on me and my wife's part – going from doctor to doctor – and test after test – all with no real clear cut answers – well you know what I mean. Tim, I hope this helps (and is understandable – it's on of those nights), PLEASE Tim, let me know anymore or what you found out. May God be with you and comfort both of you, Profile: yahoo/docwithrsd
