Hello everyone - I could use a good success story - I've posted

before, my daughter Sydney is 8 1/2 months - I have been bringing up

her flat spot to her Ped since she was 10 weeks and kept being told

she'll outgrow it. I tried repo'ing on my own, etc. We finally got

a referal to a Plastic Surg, but she'll be almost 9 months before we

see him and 9 1/2 months before tx. I'm starting to feel like time

has run out on us and all this time I've tried to get her referred.

Does anyone have a personal success of a late starter to share. I

could use some cheering up. Thanks - (Sydney's mom - St Louis)

Time has not run out, not by a longshot. Our daughter started

treatment at 9 months and she has had great results in the past eight

weeks. Just today at her CT appointment they said there was only room

for one or two more adjustments in the helmet, which gives you an

idea of how quickly they still grow and correct at this age. Go for

it, but don't let anything slow you down! Good luck.

Jenna was STAR banded at 9 months. She wore it for 12 weeks and received

approximately 80% correction. Sydney can still receive wonderful

correction!

Hi ,

My son was banded at exactly 9.5 months for 14 weeks. You can see his

before/

after photos under the DOCband before/after folder. We had good results and you

really aren't all that late getting treatment. 9.5 months is certainly not the

optimal

time to start treatment but it is definitely not too late. Sorry to hear you got

the " run-

around " from the ped. Unfortunately it is an all too common story on this board.

Good luck.

We have several success stories of late starters, some as late as

starting as 12-15 months. In the meantime though you should fine

out what type of band/helmet this plastic surgeon recommends. At

this age she would benefit best from an active band (Starband or

DOCband). Call the office and see what they recommend.

Hi . My son Dylan is 11 months now and has been in his Starband since

he was 10 months old. He's, of course, not done yet but we already have

seen improvement in only 3 weeks! I was definitely worried about his age

being a factor. Our orthotist said that it will come out looking normal

even though they can't do anything about the wideness of his head (instead

of growing oblong, it grew a little wider which happens a lot with plagio).

We're happy that finally we are doing something about it and that we can see

the improvement. It's unfortunate that many doctors do give the wrong

advice. Our orthotist said that if it hasn't rounded out significantly by 5

months of age, it probably won't correct itself. My son's doctor, at his

6-month apt, said that it wouldn't get any worse from that point on. The

orthotist said that even now, at 11 months it could get worse if he wasn't

in a helmet. I'm sorry that you have to go through this but believe me,

it's not as bad as you'll anticipate and you'll be so happy when you begin

to see the great results!

,

You definitely time for treatment! You are moving right along

through all of the steps to get your daughter into a band or

helmet. If you haven't already, see if you can get on the Plastic

Surgeon's appt. cancellation list in case an opening comes up for

your daughter to get in sooner. I see you have already received

many replies, and I just want to echo that Sydney will have time for

correction even starting band wear at 9 1/2 months. Cranial Tech

conducted a study showing that their DOCband produced results even

in older babies, which they considered to be 12 months old! That

study is in the LINKS/PLAGIO STUDIES AND RESEARCH folder. I don't

recall right this minute, but have you already scouted out helmets

and bands available in your area, or begun some research on them?

If I can help out in any way getting info for you, please let me

know!

Take care,

Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy)

Hi

My daughter is 10 1/4 months old and was banded (DOC) 5 weeks ago. We have already seen a great improvement in just this short amount of time. Her cranial vault asymmetry was 12mm and now we are down to 7mm. Base was 8mm off now 5mm, and facial was 7mm off and is now 3mm. Looking at her the difference is very noticeable. There are many other moms with "late starters" that I've talked to that have had similar experiences. If you would like to talk or need/want support other than this site, please feel free to email me at home - dmpeters@....
