Guest guest
I was reading on the national assn of emts web page, thinking of renewing my expired membership, when i found the following. “a controversial proposal that would have permitted members in each state to vote directly for representatives to the naemt board of governors failed to gain the two/thirds majority necessary to pass. under the existing bylaws, affiliated state ems associations have the right to select their own naemt governors. In some states, this selection process may involve a vote of the membership; in others, it may not. naemt members in non-affiliated states may elect representatives to the board of governors " upon petition of a percentage of active members of each such state, such percentage determined by a 75 percent vote of the board of governors present at a duly called meeting. " president roquemore will be directing a committee to look at this issue in the coming year and strengthen the number and quality of interactions with state affiliate ems associations.†this story helped me make up my mind. naemt will not get my money. all this time I thought naemt meant national association of emts. now I find out it really means national association of ems associations. how does this kind of structure provide representation for the woman on the streets? for the day to day working grunt? obviously it doesn’t. what it does is perpetuate the good ol boys little playground. after all, the reason they have risen to such lofty positions in life is because they know what is best for us peons. right? sarcasm aside, lets try to take a look at just how many emts are really represented by this system of “governorsâ€. At last count this state had somewhere between 800 and 900 naemt members (correct me if i am wrong). our state association represents us by sending a board member as our texas governor. but I’ve read right here on this board that our texas association has only 200 members. who represents the majority of naemt members in the state? Answer – nobody. if i were to renew my membership in naemt and decide not to join the texas association i would have zero voice for my donation to the good ol boys club. a look at the nice color map of affiliated states also tells a sad tale. 24 states have no affiliated state association. are there no naemt members in those states, or do they just not deserve a vote in naemt affairs? it is a sorry situation folks. they beg us to send our money then treat us like children who need them to make decisions for us. if this is what it takes to become organized i can live without it. sorry for the long message. this has my dander up and I wondered how others feel about it. is --kp–emt-- --h & k--
