Guest guest
I've followed the conversations about Paramedics working in hospital and EMS, even had to do a bit of research on the topic myself when I was in charge of an IV Start/Code team in a hospital employing Paramedics for this purpose. Now that we have pretty much decided that EMS needs a LICENSURE board to elevate the professionalism of our practice. How is the best way to get something such as this done. Dr. Bledsoe spoke of three EMS organizations that have existed in Texas to promote improvement in EMS. I think the most recent one has been EMSAT. What are their current activities. I'm searching for their website. I believe used to be in charge of this. In view of the cutbacks at TDH and elsewhere in Tx Government, what obstacles do we face in funding such a professional board? Where should I go to get my answers? <G> Thanks F. Lockridge

Guest guest
The status of the EMS Board is as follows: EMSAT has supported such a board. EMSAT attempted to get an interim committee of the Lege to study the matter and, as I understand it, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has to issue the charge. EMSAT is working to get that going practically as I speak, but the outcome is uncertain given the problems attendant to the redistricting battle. We are still very hopeful that the interim charge will be forthcoming and hearings held. Gene Gandy Vice President EMSAT
Guest guest
I trust the list will be advised of the particulars so we may attempt to inform our representatives when this is appropriate... Or should we be doing such actions already? F. Lockridge wegandy1938@... wrote: The status of the EMS Board is as follows: EMSAT has supported such a board. Guest guest
and Others: Please make your representative aware of the need for the Speaker to add the EMS Commission to his interim agenda. This is very important. We do not have much clout in the Legislature and some of the legislators who have traditionally been our friends are Democrats and now assigned to purgatory. Also some of the Republicans who used to care are no longer in the Lege. I don't know of a single Republican lawmaker who knows anything about us or cares enough to go to bat for us, so if anybody knows one who will listen, please speak to her or him. If each one of you would contact your own representative and make her or him aware of the problems we face, it would help tremendously. Guest guest
Senator Dr. Frist is the Majority Leader of the United States Senate. We're talking about the Texas Legislature. Senator Dr. Frist can't do anything to help us. We need for Tom Craddick, the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives to appoint an interim study committee. If you want to invoke the powers of the U. S. Congress, then write The Honorable Kay Hutchison, United States Senatress, The Honorable Cornyn, United States Senator, and your Congressperson. Guest guest
Well, yes, Tom Delay especially is interested in state politics, but anyone who thinks he gives a rats patoot about EMS needs to spend a few weeks in Ladonia at the Asylum. Fact is, NOBODY much in either Washington or Austin either knows or cares a whit about EMS. So we need to begin by educating our own reps before we start on the Big Dogs. The only way you could get Tom Delay's ear would be to make a $50,000 contribution. Then you might get 5 minutes. GG
Guest guest
How about Senator Dr. Frist http://frist.senate.gov/contact.cfm Ed Walsh LP Re: EMS and licensure boards and Others: Please make your representative aware of the need for the Speaker to add the EMS Commission to his interim agenda. Guest guest
I agree but he and Tom Delay seam to be involved in state's politics. Guest guest
Re: Dr. Bob Duell, Texas House of Representatives Good thought. He lives in Greenville, I think. I have no idea what his knowledge of EMS is or whether or not he has any interest. Anybody live in his district? GG
Guest guest
We might try Dr. Bob Duell®. He is a physician with a public health background.
Guest guest
When I was the Grand Poobaa of EMS in Hunt County, I worked with him as the county public health doc, medical staff, and some bioterr-scare projects. He also goes to my church. Maybe, some smoother tongued devils than I could get togather. I'd be happy to knock on the door. Mike
