Reading them makes me feel so much better about what happened with the orthotist earlier today. I talked again to the nurse from Kaiser and she talked with his PT, and he now has been scheduled to see her next Monday for her to try and help him fit into the band. Supposedly, she has worked with a lot of children who have plagio/tort (a surprise to me, since it took her over a year to refer us to Hanger when his plagio was obvious from the beginning and is now very severe) but I am willing to try, we will go there and see what she recommends. I do think that the band still has a chance of fitting though, IF this is the correct band for him. If I still can't get it to fit, I liked the advice people gave of getting him to try a different band, I will be looking at the links to the starband and DOCband on the plagio website in a moment. has microcephaly as well; his head grows very slowly, right now it is at the size of a 3-4 month olds and has been that way for almost a year. So I'm not so worried about him growing out of it as I am about the Orthotist not having known what he was doing and shaped it/cut into it too much (he had to crimp it out around the ears to fit his glasses, in an odd sort of way). I can try and get a picture of him up on the site if that is working. A few weeks ago I got a picture of him smiling when he had it on! He does start crying within ten minutes of having it on, though, which is what concerns me that it is more than just the discomfort of having it placed on his head. In one way thats a GREAT thing cause developmentaly she is on track but she said she can see Kadies drag on wanting to turn her head and that it can cause her to delay in other areas.ie.crawing walking ect...... but that since she failed they cant do anything to help her but to come back in 3 months to reevaluate her. the test they give them runs for 0 to 5 month olds ok now how much sence does that make ( give a 1 month old the same development test as a 5 month old) uggggggggggg but they did get me into see a orthopedic surgeon tomorrow and if he thinks she needs the PT/OT then he will refer her to the COmmission for families and children with special needs. SO maybe they can help me if not the heck with them Im going Private and do it myself. I have had two peds a PT and and OT say she needed the therapy but the First Steps program here wont help her grrrrrrrrrrrrr IM STILL ON A MISSION!!!!!! I believe that at 9months they hit the next age category. When they come back and eval her at 8+ months then she will be at the upper end of what they are asking/testing/looking for. That was the same with Willow. She did JUST enough to never qualify and finally when she turned 9months they evaled her and she did not hit those milestones. Please don't give up. The EI and whatever other names this service has is a good thing, but they really only pick up majorly delayed kids in some states, but you can beat the system.
