Guest guest
Small world, my daughter and her family just moved there. Hot flashes Hi all, What complicates my situation is the fact that my sweating/hot flashes started when I first started to taper off my low dose of ativan october 2003. I am now 4 months off ativan and when I am in a situation where I am slightly stressed, my forehead starts to sweat and if it worsens the rest of me gets hot. I know you good people don't have a clue about how benzodiazepines effects the body and brain and don't expect you to. It can take months or in some sad cases years to come back to normal after tapering from tranquilizers. So it is hard to know what's what here. Where is this doctor's list that was mentioned on one of the posts. Sorry I forgot who mentioned it. I live in Deerfield Beach, FL that is just immediately south of Boca Raton and north of Fort Lauderdale. Thanks, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
, Go Here for the top docs: <http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/index.htm> http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/index.htm Also, would Remeron, Lexapro or Seroquel be included in the " benzodiazepines " group? If so, could you give me a quick synopsis of how it affects " body and brain? " Do you have a link where I can find info? You can post privately to kirkland@... since this is OT. Thanks Blessings, Debbie K. Hot flashes Hi all, What complicates my situation is the fact that my sweating/hot flashes started when I first started to taper off my low dose of ativan october 2003. Guest guest
.... My mind is in ramble mode... so here goes... Coming off of a tranquilizer... would that not increase the perceived stress to the body? Sweating like that is a form of expression of stress, isn't it? Stress is a strong (can't think of the word...... affector??) to the adrenals which kick in to help us cope with stress... My thoughts... if your body is coming off the other drug, your body may be perceiving a lot more things as stress and reacting strongly to it as a result... that would mean that your adrenals are in severe over drive right now as a result of tapering off the tranquilizer.... .... sooo...... would support to the adrenals, as for adrenal fatigue... reduce the adrenal dump into the system? We know that adding low doses of thyroid to the system will cause the gland itself to reduce production... does the same thing work with adrenals? Some one else comment on this... we know that by taking adrenal supps in the morning the adrenals don't get the morning panic to dump into the system and can relax... what if the same sense of acceptable level gained through a morning adrenal supplement would relax 's adrenals and reduce the dumps causing his reactions? Could the elevated heart beat and anxiety that he's experiencing be a reaction to the adrenals as he withdraws from the tranqs... and not so much an expression of hyperthyroid??? .... does this spark any thoughts or tangents in anyone else? ... has levels that are goofed up... Maybe we can do some head banging and see if we can come up with some ways of easing the extremes and get him started in the right direction? It was a head banging session here that came up with the idea that I needed a thyroid dose at bed time.... and that first dose, that first night, I slept like a baby and for the first time I years I woke with no pain! So I know you guys are good at this! Guest guest
Topper, Let's put it this way. I was on the benzos for 5 months from May " 03 to Dec '03. In June, I start getting the bad heart pounding and anxiety. Now that I am off the benzos, my heart pounding is only about 1/10th of what it was while on, while tapering, and just coming off. I never had this " emotional sweating " prior to the start of my benzo w/d. What I am trying to say is that the only hypothyroid symptom that I ever had prior to June of last year was a low temp. Even as a baby my mother always said that my average temp is 98 not 98.6. It has been low in the early morning 96.7 to 97 for many years. I have had the antibodies for AT LEAST 7 years now. Before that it was never tested. My tsh runs high but all my throid numbers run dead center, even the free ones. That is why I never took the advice of the doc to take hormone. For all of those years I felt fine, no Fatigue Weakness, Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight,Coarse, dry hair,Dry, rough pale skin, Hair loss, Cold intolerance, Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches, Constipation, Depression, Irritability, Memory loss, or Decreased libido. I look at many of the hypo symptoms, and I just don't have them. They say that you have to give withdrawal from benzos 6 to 18 months for you to return to normal. Yes, stress does affect the adrenals I know. I wonder if one of those homeo doc in Boca can check all my hormones to see what's what. By the way, what are the suppliments that people take to help their adrenals? Thanks, > .... > > My mind is in ramble mode... so here goes... > > Coming off of a tranquilizer... would that not increase the perceived > stress to the body? Guest guest
, So the heart issues started about two months after starting the meds? And they continued... Hmmmm.. I don't mean to be nosey.. .but why were you put on them in the first place... and kept on them even with those type of symptoms? Seems that they should have stopped and sought another solution.... If you'd rather not answer.. that's okay... As far as your hypo symptoms.... that's what makes this stuff so hard for folks to diagnose and to treat... not every one gets the same symptoms.. some only get a few.. some will cycle through this part of the list, then that will clear up and they'll cycle through the other. Another reason why so many folks don't get the right dosage. Docs just don't take the time to learn how to treat... Many folks can show symptoms and be thoroughly miserable even with labs that are dead set normal... other folks can have horrendlously high TSH and low Frees and hardly show any symptoms at all... then throw in the factor that so many folks accept this stuff as being old age, or kids or having been in a car accident or something and the stuff just doesn't get linked together. With Hashi's you get the great fun of stuff shifting around with thyroid levels bouncing high and low and any where in between and not really knowing what's going on. You're numbers are showing that your thyroid is under a lot of stress... and it's gonna burn out some time down the road, it's inevitable... Not trying to be a poop here... but the more that you know now.. the more time you have to decide what is best for you.... In my case I got no time. I was told I was hyper.. sent to the hospital, told I was so sick that I could drop over dead, asked to sign a piece of paper saying that if they messed up and I died they couldnt' be sued... then I had a scan, then I got nuked... Then I was told that I could still die! I'm suspecting the your adrenals are working pretty hard at trying to keep everything going.... the more tired they get... well... that's just not a good thing.... As far as adrenal supplements... yes, there are many available.. we have a few 'camps' here as to which type/variety/brand folks prefer... Since the only type that I've taken is Adrenal Glandular, that is the only one that I can say much about. It's the whole adrenal gland, processed and tableted just like the Thyroid Glandulars (such as Armour). I chose it as my treatment because I responded so well to Natural thyroid that I felt that I would prefer to give my body the full spectrum of the adrenal gland then let it decide what it wanted to break it down to make.... I've been on it just over a year and plan to continue the full two years that is recommended for adrenal support, to allow the glands to heal/recover from their fatigued state. I was not diagnosed as having adrenal fatigue. I went by my symptoms and the fact that I'd been under medicated for more than a decade and then un medicated (when I ran out of insurance and money) for nearly 3 years. Since I have no working thyroid gland (it was killed by the RAI) I was running on my adrenal glands for all those years... Now that I'm on supplements I've noticed MANY of my symptoms have gone away or lessened. The best thing is that I laugh when I'm supposed to and I cry when I'm supposed to.... and I get MAD when I'm supposed to... before I would either cry all the time or go hide... and I never laughed. I just did not react to life anymore.. My adrenals just couldnt' do their job anymore. Oh and one other thing. With the addition of the adrenal glandular in Feb of last year, then the addition of DHEA (a precursor to sex hormones) in April... by June I had leg and body hair back... (Jamy, you readin' this? Time to jump in! hehehehehe) My hormones were messed up enough so that I got periods... but lost all my 'adult' hair. I now consider my leg hairs to be signs of my returning health.. they wouldn't be growing again if my hormones weren't normalizing. .... I'll stop now.. I'm getting off on a tangent..... I have a rule.. not to erase what I've written... except to correct grammar or spelling... Sometimes one of us dregs something up that someone else hadn't heard before... so none of the stuff that oozes out of us is worthless... someone will learn from it.. that's why the groups are here.. to pool ALL of our resources.... , refresh my memory... you're in your late teens? Guest guest
, So you did taper off of the benzos?? Good. There are only few reasons that one should be prescribed benzos for more than a couple of weeks. I am sorry that you are going through this. It isn't easy. I am a recovered alcoholic and addict myself. I also am a resident counselor at a rehab facility. I can tell you that your withdrawals will not take as lomg as you may have been told, provided you seek the right kind of help. Preferably someone who is familiar with this condition. With me, the withdrawals that I did experience were far better than the fog I was in. Best wishes, -- Re: Hot flashes Topper, Let's put it this way.
