Guest guest
Hi Becky - I just spoke personally with my daughter's pediatrician. She is urging me to give na Augmentin, even though she knows of my daughters ulcerative colitis. She says na's ear drum is on its way to being ruptured, but is willing to prescribe ear drops even though she does not think it will be as effective as the Augmentin. Becky - na's colitis was so bad, her GI tract looked like a " war zone " - with her path to healing, I told the Doctor that I just cannot do it. My husband just bought the homeopathic ear drops that you suggested. My " gut " instinct tells me to go this route first. If this does not work, I will go back and give her the drops the pediatrician prescribes, and if that fails, I might have to give in to the Augmentin - I just hope and pray I am doing the right thing. Guest guest
What about an antibiotic shot? Would that affect her gut? Guest guest
My son does not tolerate oral antibiotics. A shot of Rocephin always works for his ear infections. It still affects his gut, but not nearly as much as the oral antibiotics. HTH, Joy > > > > > Thanks Becky - > > > > > Her eardrum is not ruptured, so we are going to > > > > > try the eardrops. Guest guest
Claudette I haven't read the other ladies' posts, but here was my experience with Augmentin... It's very strong. I am on SCD because of Augmentin. It gave me a horrible yeast infection and chronic D....really messed up my gut. Can the Dr. do a culture to make sure that the infection is bacterial. Can you get a shot instead? Is amoxicillin an option, along with natural antibacterials like grape fruit seed extract? You could supplement that with warm compresses and ear rinses; get her checked out after a few days and if she's doing OK, you won't need the Augmentin. You don't want her ear drum to rupture, but it would be nice if you could do something that wouldn't have her gut healing backslide so much. my two cents chrystee Sam SCD 7 weeks > Thank you for all that replied to my inquiry regarding > " possible ear infection " > > My husband just took my 7 year old to the Pediatrician and > she has a severe ear infection.
