Guest guest
A strep carrier is a theory. Another is that the strep is systemic and is not easily treated the way a local, recent infection is treated. A strategy would be to try to get rid of it using a long term treatment. Many parents of autistic kids have reported using OLE for 2 years to try to kick it. > > How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? > I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. Him and his brother had some sores on their bottom about 6 months ago and they tested pos for strep. We treated with zithro for 10 days then one time weekly for 3 weeks. About a month or so later I took them back to get re-tested...one wasn't showing any real symptoms and the other was having some itching and they were pos. Did the same protocol as above but are continuing the weekly dose. Here we are about a month later and I took all 3 in to get tested and they all came back pos. None of them have lesions, one has slight itching but not every day. The doc said they might be carriers. > > How do I know? Guest guest
can be that they are carriers meaning thaty have cronic cases with out symptoms (though yours ARE having symptoms) or I think the better recommendation is that your children's strep is resistant to the type of treatment you are doing and therefore need to use something differen that they ARE suseptable to,. PS if NOT treated it can turn INTO PANDAS (switching from long term untreated step going cronic and autoimmune) part of our kids GET to PANDAS......many don't show symptoms Re: strep-carrier? Guest guest
flares will go away (have negitive testing between) and then have possitves later, carriers (not really meaning you carry it with you all the time) should be labled more stubburn strep with out symptoms.....meaning it takes several rounds or finding the RIGHT antibiotic to treat adn THEN get a negitve test after titers would be high on "carriers" and not go down until you find the right treatment......I would dare say it may meaing it's hanging out in the gut, or tonsils in most cases of this strep-carrier? How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. Guest guest
What are some other good treatments besides zithro that we should try? Like I mentioned one does have PANDAS, one possibly does and the other doesn't (and isn't showing any signs of strep...or at least none I am recognizing) > > > > How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? > > I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. Guest guest
lately it seems like activated charcoal that I give my son in a stevia-sweetened soda is when he has his better days *knock on wood*. My son is experiencing re-tracing his steps and shuffling his feet over door and stair thresholds... > > > > > > How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? > > > I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. Guest guest
by "our" kids I am assumeing you mean autism, BUT that isn't really true. most of our kids have bacteria over growth of one type or another, many go naturals but with strep it's not something to mess with as PANDAS is harder to beat then strep. yeast again can always be treated with meds as well..... Re: strep-carrier? Our ped gave us amoxicillin. I usually wait and talk to our DAN and see what he wants to do. He is out of town for 3 more weeks so would anyone advise to go ahead and give the amoxi and just see how it does? I am a bit freaked out since I know our kids shouldn't have antibiotics but they keep getting these bacterias that need them. In the past I never used antibiotics. My kids are those non vaccinated, no antibiotics kids that got autism We didn't give antibiotics until 4 when we found out my one son had bad clostridia. So I came from a "no antibiotics" background and now I keep giving them antibiotics. Sorry for the rambling, just so confused right now!> > >> > > How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? > > > I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. My son has PANDAS and he is on long term Augmentin XR-working like a dream thus far. Read my blog about PANDAS here http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/fighting-autism-and-winning/2010/07/pandas-the-n\ ew-autism.html or go to my foundation page.... www.thefarrellfoundation.org for more info. > > > > > > > > How do you know if you are just a carrier or actually have a strep flare? > > > > I have 3 boys, 2 with autism. 1 gets ivig for PANDAS. Guest guest
It is a fine balance between strep, yeast, viruses, and priobio', etc. I talk a lot about this on my blog: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/fighting-autism-and-winning/2010/07/pandas-the-n\ ew-autism.html and on my foundation website: www.thefarrellfoundation.org For us... I give antifungals (I rotate Uva Ursi, Candex, CanSol, Candida Clear, Oil Of Oregano, and Garlic) in the morning. HIGH dose custom probiotics in the afternoon OLE or GSE mid evening Augmentin XR with dinner This regime has fought strep, kept yeast at bay, and replenished his good bacteria....for us anyway.
