Guest guest
Howdy everyone, As you all know, Jaden graduated from his CranioCap last Friday after being banded for 15 weeks. I am keeping him in it longer till I see redness or a tight fit. I posted pics in BEFORE & AFTER/LOCAL HELMETS/CRANIOCAP/JADEN. I do not have a side view available, but I took one at 14 weeks so posted that, and feel he has a nice occiput. What I am hesitant about is I feel he has more rounding out to do behind his right ear and to the top back half of his head. I also feel, that from a bird's eye view, the top back half of his head does not have a nice roundness yet, but a titch " square " . One thing I did not realize in the beginning is that he had forehead bossing and that has smoothed out perfectly, and his ears were incredibly misaligned in my opinion, and even THOSE have realigned rather well! He does have ear shearing on his right ear, but no biggy if that sticks out. A small minor procedure will correct that in a few years. I called Hanger again today to ask for the digital scan to be emailed to me (from back in July when I wanted to possibly pursue a 2nd band w/ them). They said they would give the orthotist the message along w/ " several of my other messages I have left " . I said " what? this is only my 2nd CALL! " What the????! So I was a bit irked at their tone w/ me about that. I did express my concern about Jaden's rounding, and they said I can get him scanned again (at no charge) when I want. I just might do that in a month or so. Anyway, if you all have time, please look at his pics in the file mentioned above. I'd love everyone's opinions (again) as to what you honestly think. I know his plagio is very mild now, and whether or not he'll round out more is hard to tell. Has anyone experienced further rounding out " by nature " after done w/ helmet therapy? From everything I have read and heard the answer would be not much, but I'd like to know if there was any more success out there that maybe I am not aware of. Thanks for taking the time. And I don't think I properly thanked everyone, especially all you moderators, for welcoming me to the group in the Spring, and helping me make the swift decision to band Jaden at 5 & 1/2 months old. I have not ONCE looked back at my decision, nor did I even hesitate to band him. Your support has been incredibly compasionate, your encouragement always there when needed, your shoulders to lean on when I wanted to cry invaluable, and your plain out honesty was just what " Dr. Mom " ordered. I may have gotten lippy or cranky, and sometimes my mouth gets me in trouble. But it's my big mouth and everyone's support that made me start " Jaden's Plagiocephaly Awareness Campaign " in my area and because of this I have been able to spread the word. And I won't stop either. I will try to continue to post and help others, and my email address may be provided should others need it. I will also post more pics when I feel Jaden is done w/ his CranioCap, which I have a feeling won't be too long. I'll need everyone's advice on whether or not to pursue a 2nd band. Guest guest
Amy, I dunno, he looks really good right now. I'd be torn with this decision because really you could go either way. In an earlier post you mentioned your dh not really keen on the idea of a second one. Is your husband acting like it's really you that's the issue and not Jaden's head? I know for most, deciding to pursue another helmet/band can be just as tedious/monumental as the first decision (even though you didnt sound at all hesitant the first time around). Especially, when family has a say in it. I imagine I would go ahead with the treatment if my insurance covered Hanger helmets. The thinking is it could only help finnish the rounding rather than waiting for nature to get around to it. Since Hanger is an active helmet you could see really guick results since he's still pretty young. If you need a direct answer.... If he were my son I would try Hanger for the additional correction. Guest guest
Amy, While I do see some correction I think that Jaden could use some more. I think if you get him into an active band he's see some awesome correction. He is still young enough to achieve that. I know what a hard decision this is to make, I can tell you though that if you do decide to get him into an active band, you won't regret your decision. --- In Plagiocephaly , " Amy in MN " <skisum88@h...> wrote: > Howdy everyone, > As you all know, Jaden graduated from his CranioCap last Friday > after being banded for 15 weeks.
