Guest guest
, No need to worry, after a short adjustment period you'll be nursing just fine! It takes a little getting used to manuevering in a way that doesnt cause the band to give the baby " angry face, " but as long as they're eating they don't usually even care that there forehead is is being pushed down a little. The other issue is the band hurting and leaving impressions on YOUR arm while you're holding him. I found the easiest way to deal w/that is to use a thick burp cloth between your arm and the helmet, especially on the velcro side. Experiment w/positions is also a good idea to find what works best for you, but you don't need to wean him! Hannah was banded at 4.5 mos and was banded right through the time she weaned herself. , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " soukasaurus " <soukup@c...> wrote: > Perhaps this isn't the forum to discuss ... but I can imagine we've > all learned to ask much more than we ever thought we could!! > Anyway, my 5-month old will be shortly fitted with helmet and I'm > trying to prepare both he and myself for any " life " changes we need > to make. Guest guest
Sorry, . I didn't breastfeed my son but I know that it can be done with a banded baby. One of my friends would put a pillow between her son's head and her arm. It might be awkward for awhile but try not to give up on the breastfeeding if you can. It is wonderful that you have already come so far with it! Guest guest
Hi - You can definitely continue to nurse your son once he has been banded. My 7 month DD was banded at 5 mos and continues to nurse just fine. Really the only problem will be YOUR comfort... but a few positioning changes helped us alot. First feed in the morning, I nurse lying in bed (yes, I am not a morning person and this helps ease my wake up routine). The band isn't in the way at all that way, and I get to snuggle with my angel baby! Other feeds I usually just put a folded burp cloth over my arm to keep the helmet from leaving dents or scratches on my arm. Or if I am sitting in the glider, I put a bed pillow on my lap, half over the arm of the chair, and use that to support her head instead of my arm. But now that she wiggles so much, I almost need to keep a hold on her! Hope this helps you! , mom to Abigail STARBanded 2/10 and tort --- In Plagiocephaly , " soukasaurus " <soukup@c...> wrote: > Perhaps this isn't the forum to discuss ... but I can imagine we've > all learned to ask much more than we ever thought we could!! > Anyway, my 5-month old will be shortly fitted with helmet and I'm > trying to prepare both he and myself for any " life " changes we need > to make. Guest guest
I am thinking about the same thing. We are not yet banded and are waiting for our neurosurgeon consult and evaluation. I was thinking it could be reomved for breastfeeding, can't it? Although, my son falls asleep nursing and then I would have to put it back on. I Imagine there would just be some finessing of oour techniques and we can find a way, right? Best wishes and I will follow this one as well. mish --- In Plagiocephaly , " soukasaurus " <soukup@c...> wrote: > Perhaps this isn't the forum to discuss ... but I can imagine we've > all learned to ask much more than we ever thought we could!! > Anyway, my 5-month old will be shortly fitted with helmet and I'm > trying to prepare both he and myself for any " life " changes we need > to make. Guest guest
I know others have answered, but I wanted to let you know that I've continued nursing my little guy now for over 2 months with his helmet on. I don't even notice it anymore! At night, we wash his hair and then I get to feed him without it on while his hair dries. I like to feed him at least once a day without it on! But anyways, be encouraged, you do not even have to consider weaning! - --- In Plagiocephaly , " soukasaurus " <soukup@c...> wrote: > Perhaps this isn't the forum to discuss ... but I can imagine we've > all learned to ask much more than we ever thought we could!! > Anyway, my 5-month old will be shortly fitted with helmet and I'm > trying to prepare both he and myself for any " life " changes we need > to make.
