Guest guest
First of all - thank you for your yeast e-mails! I think the plot is thickening (ugh - bad pun!) I am also sending this to the choanal atresia board because I think it is relevant. Problem - yeast! Possible link - chronic sinus infections. In my " research " here's what I've found. ( " Research is from the internet and " Sinus Survival " book.) There was a 1999 Mayo Clinic study that reported that an immune system response to fungus rather than bacterial infections is the cause of most cases of chronic sinusitis. Basically - you get a sinus infection - you treat with antibiotics - you kill the good bacteria and yeast grows. The yeast is now causing the sinus infection so you have another sinus infection - you get antibiotics which does not treat the sinus infection and you kill more good yeast - thus the vicious cycle. The most frequent cause of the imbalance (Candida toxicity syndrome - or yeast overgrowth) is the recurrent or extended use of antibiotics. The vast majority of people with chronic sinus infections, who have taken three or more ten-day or two week courses of antibiotics within a six-month period, probably have some degree of Candida / yeast overgrowth. You kill the yeast with an antifungal medication or " good flora " (acidolophis) supplements. Also, things like zantac, prilosec, previcid, and motrin have negative effects to this situation also! is going to her ENT next week and I will ask him to culture her nose to see if it is fungus and discuss this with him. She is on day 5 of 21 of nebulized antibiotics and she is still miserable and has a low fever--uuuuggggghhhh! What makes me crazy is this--if this is so common why doesn't the medical field become more proactive with it and treat it! I'd love input from others!
