too much protein = kidney problems?

I am still preop but my sister is 23 and in the hospital with kidney

and liver failure. While I was researching dialysis tonight, I came

across something that said kidney problems can be from a diet high in

protein. Do a lot of postops have kidney problems? I'm worried I'll get

them as they run in my family!
