Guest guest
Go girl go! Sounds as if your chair is definately a great thing for you to be able to expand the world around you again. Just like driving a car or anything you had to learn it is going to take some time for you to be completely comfortable with it.Practice runs will help you gain more confidence as you go along your merry way. You are doing fine. We've been looking around at the different models and options as my walking is not getting any easier. I'm the master of the understatement on this topic. I've test driven some mobility aides owned by folks we know to get a better idea how each of them work. So far the chairs seem to be more ideal all around for usefulness both outside and inside. Those speed controls are very sensitive. Keep on rolling! We have great faith in your mastering this. Weezie > > Well I took my second trip out the front door in my power chair yesterday. WHEW......... no mishaps, but it still is going to take practise to maneuver it through the door ways. There's only about 1 inch or so clearance on both sides, so I have to be straight on to make it in/out without running into the sides. Plus if I am going a little fast when I stop there is a little delayed reaction and the chair might still go ahead a few inches, just enough to run into something if I am that close. Going down the ramp is like going down that first dip on a rollercoaster, and really it isn't that steep, but when you don't have much control over your body it seems intimidating. At least the deck has the railing and fencing around it now so thats not a problem anymore. I feel much safer. > I was telling hubby that when you have disabilities its a whole new world and everything has to be calculated differently than what you were use to before. Its hard for an able bodied person to understand it, so there are times when he doesn't understand why I feel apprehensive about doing something. Things I use to do without a second thought. Like even riding in the van, I have decided when we get the conversion van it is set up to where I can ride in the center or the front seat. I have opted to ride in the center, because riding in front my eyes don't work to be able to go with the traffic. I think the cars and the big semi's are the worse are coming into our lane. Hubby is driving too fast, too close, and the speed of the other cars are really too fast. So I think I will feel safer in the middle where I can see more of the surroundings, and be able to have a wider viewpoint. He's okay with it, but it will be another adjustment we will have to get > use to. > Using the Power chair is like I'm going faster than I am, I think there is a word that describes this symptom, but it all has to do with spatial orientation. I am on the lowest setting on the chair and I still am having a hard time steering it. BUT.......I am determined to master it, and if anyone has any suggestions to how they adapted to their chair please tell me. Its a tough chair so far as I've run it into a few things and it doesn't seem to faze it. > > Did I tell you that hubby bought me a big flat screen monitor for my computer for my birthday 7/28? It is awesome! > > Hope everyone is having a nice day/night, we have rain today but its suppose to get into the high 80's for the weekend, then the 90's during the week. We still have the deck and ramp to stain so as soon as we get it all done I'll send pictures. > > p/s HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the ones I've missed and WELCOME to all the newcomers, I'm Jackie 58, from Oregon.
