Followup to sister denying BP mom

Dear friends,

Just wanted to follow up on my original topic regarding my sister's denial of

our BP mom:

My sister and I went to see Lost in Yonkers (Neil Simon play) last night. First

of all: holy cow--it completely smacks of/revolves around a [seemingly] BP mom.

Secondly, at intermission, we were chatting about corporal punishment of kids;

kind of chatting about our crazy FOO, and doing that weird laugh/cry thing

recalling how many utensils, hair brushes, etc. nada broke on our rear-ends,

eating soap, and the like. Things that only a kid of a BP mom could possibly

laugh at.

Well, I sensed an opening. I told her I had been recently doing a bit more work

on understanding BPD and mentioned that I had found this amazing online group

(that's you all :) where there was a whole community of people writing stories

that, impossibly, read like our autobiography. (BTW, this still blows me away--

the similarities in our stories and challenges. Simultaneously comforts and

saddens and energizes...heals.)

Anyhoo, I could sense her shields raise a little at the mention of it, but she

didn't shoot it down. She just took it in. It was a very " light " moment, and

way to let her know we aren't alone. I'm not going to be giving her books any

time soon, but I think it planted a seed--a tenuous open channel for

communication and healing. I will continue to tread carefully. Thanks all for

your wisdom in responding to my previous post.

May we all heal!
