Guest guest
My son has cranio-sacral therapy with a chiropractor with training in pediatrics. He's been going since about last summer. CST is more gentle than the other stuff. However, she will adjust the vertebrae or disk in the area that can get whacked out due to constipation (or constipated due to whacked out vertebrae). If his, for example, occipital in his head is tight, she'll do something there. Soon after he started CST, I noticed he wasn't grinding his head into the furniture. I go to her associate in the office sometimes. I've had neurosurgery, and I go in screaming, " Don't adjust anything! " and he respects that. My friend was helped by a chiropractor with her sinuses. I don't know if CST helps with allergies. However, I was brainwashed by the usual conditioning, and I am very wary, too. I understand your reluctance. I have heard negative stories, too. But, there are also horror stories about M.D.s. My orthopaedist was a real piece of work. If you want to try CST with your child, find someone who is experienced with children with pediatric training from the Upledger Institute. You can try to get references, and you can go in saying, " Don't adjust anything! " There are also one or two chiropractors out there who are supposed to be doing wonders with autistic kids. OT - chirapractors?? A friend keeps telling me that her chiropractor could help Luke with his allergies and bowel issues and also his ASD... I am such a skeptic I think it's a bunch of hooey. With muscle problems, pain, nerve issues, yes... but I just don't want somebody messing around with my little boy, for no reason! The diet makes SENSE why it would work, but how can " adjusting " him help? Sure they would find SOME reason he needs it, I mean, I doubt anybody walks in there and they say, " There's nothing you need adjusted " . Can you sense I'm VERY skeptical???? I've had friends that were just way over the edge on the whole chiropractor thing. But I don't want to be guilty of being closed minded, so I'll just ask, anyone gone this route and did it help at all? Thanks.
Guest guest
I have just started taking my 2.8 year old ASD son to the chiropractor I have been going to for years and he loves it. This chiropractor has helped my husband with IBS and gas symptoms in the past. I do think that there is a " there " there and its worth following up as long as you go to someone who has been referred by someone you trust, like your friend. Rhonda OT - chirapractors?? Guest guest
Hi, We did about 4 sessions with Abby and it didn't do much but it also scared me to death when he " adjusted " , " cracked " her neck. I think it could be dangerous. Then I had an adjustment to see what it was like and I felt like I had the flu for about 3 days. I saw a show about alternative medicine and basically the " crack " you hear is just like the sound you hear when you crack your knuckles. They had better things to say about acupuncture. The host was Alan Alda. Anyway, it was too scary and people have been hurt by it. Just my opinion. Guest guest
We took when he was younger and I have to say that it helped his ear infections tremendously. Once he was really stuffed up but nothing was actually coming out. The chiro adjusted him and NO LIE within five minutes all this horrible yellow gunky mucus was pouring out his nose. Something up there was being closed off and the gunk couldn't flow out. We take him about once a year now just as a preventive type measure to keep his spine adjusted so nerves aren't being impinged in any way. I can't comment on the allergy or bowel issues, but it did help his sinuses. Just my two cents.
