Guest guest
Hi & Welcome! Do you have health insurance? If so, give them a call and ask what type of coverage they have for a cranial helmet for plagiocephaly. I'm sorry to hear about your ped. discouraging a helmet! Grrrrr. Why?! Especially if your son's head is " extremely " flat as you described. Many of our plagio babies have been referred to a specialist such as a ped. neurosurgeon, a craniofacial surgeon, etc. Maybe ask your ped for a referral to get a 2nd opinion. I also chked out our DATABASE " Helmet/band providers " and found the below facility in Denver who provides the STARband (http://www.orthomerica.com). I'd suggest you email , the member who provided her email address for a reference on the clinic & orthotist in Denver for their STARband. She's a very nice & helpful parent, her & I " talked " a couple mos back & I know she'd love to help anyone in her area with questions, etc.. But do chk into your insurance if you have any, or Medicaid if you have that? Good luck! Guest guest
Hello Welcome to the group. glad you found us. I totally agree with Debbie in that you should call your health insurance and start there. Then I would change peds if I had to in order to get an Rx. Can you demand it from him? I hope he will come around. Please keep us updated on Asher. Guest guest
I see that Debbie has given you some info already. I hope that you can get somewhere. Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. As Debbie already said in her reply to your post, find out where your insurance stands on coverage. Also, see if you can have a consultation at the facility she mentioned, and find out the price and payment plan for that band. I don't know if you would need a prescription to be seen for just a consultation, so perhaps you could call them, or other members of the group can provide that info. If your pediatrician won't write the prescription, demand a referral to a specialist, or get a new pediatrician. At 8 months old, the opportune time for aggressive repositioning to work on a headshape that is extremely flat has mostly passed. Would you let us know what you find out as far as your insurance coverage, helmet prescription, or facility charges go? The majority of members in the group have experience with helmets and bands, and can give you guidance and advice about any concerns you have with any part of the process.
