Guest guest
I had been feeling much better the last 2 weeks or so. Then this morning I was doing some work on the computer, I had been busy for about half an hour, when suddenly I felt completely overcome by exhaustion. I have not felt so overwhelmed for a long time. My throat started hurting, not as in a sore throat but more like a pain first at one side of my thyroid then it moved over to the other side. I increased my armour by a quarter grain yesterday and I was wondering if it could have had this effect. I have not experienced this before when I have increased the dosage. Any ideas? Lynda (in the UK) ps as an aside, I am doing volunteer work transcribing births, deaths and marriages for a genealogy site called FreeBMD. If any of you have English or Welsh ancestors you might like to have a look at it. It is not yet complete, a whole load of volunteers are working on it and they expect it to be complete by 2007. the url is http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Guest guest
Hi Janie, long story but here is the short version. My history is that of thyroiditis diagnosed by an endo (when we lived in South Africa) - I was hyper then but he told me that my thyroid would eventually burn itself out and I would become hypo. Started having symptoms of hypo but by then we had moved to the UK. Doc here goes by blood tests only but I don't think he tested for antibodies. I asked to be referred to Dr Skinner and he agreed but reluctantly. Dr Skinner specializes in treating thyroid patients - but and this is a big but - he is not qualified to do so, in other words he is not an endo - so what? Endos don't seem to know what they are doing anyway. Dr Skinner has developed an interest in thyroid problems. I think this is why he ALWAYS insists on a referral to cover himself. I also think that the medical council are watching him because he is so popular and because he is making people well (and they don't seem to like that). Anyway, Dr Skinner rxd thyroxine for me starting on 25mcg a day and slowly increasing by 25mcg every 2 weeks until I was on 80mcg a day. At that point my ankles started swelling but it was during the hot summer and my ankles often swell when it is hot. I also had a chest infection so I went to see my regular doc about that. While I was there I mentioned my swollen ankles and he asked me what medication I was taking. When I told him 80mcg of thyroxine, he looked at my notes and said that it hadn't been rxd for me and where was I getting it from. When I told him from Dr Skinner he went beserk and told me to stop taking it immediately and if I didn't - in his words " I would be on my own " I did stop taking it for awhile but felt dreadful so that was when I decided to self-treat with armour. And this wasn't such a short version after all!!!
