Guest guest
Hi Everyone If this had been just a subtle change I would not have worried too much. Over the weekend, upon rising in the morning, my ankles, lower abdomen and below my eyes are puffy, I presume edema, after moving around for a while it goes down. Also my flank pain is very bad at the moment, making me feel nauseous, and every joint, and I mean every joint seems to ache. My urine is also very bloody, not the usual cola colour, but red. Is this a sign of downward trend due to impaired kidney function? I am mindful that I have bladder problems also, but this is as bad as I have felt IGAN or otherwise for some months. I am booked in to see my GP this week, but with no Neph appointment now until 28 Oct, the 16 Sept was again cancelled, I am a little worried. Input from you guys gratefully received. Best wishes
Guest guest
Hi there , One of the symptoms of impaired kidney function is as you described, edema, but you should really read it together with your lab results for concluding nearing end stage. Because you have other contributing problems, I guess the doc. is the next step really before you start forming conclusions. We all expect the worst when symptoms arise and quite often it is never as bad as we imagine. It might be just what frequently refers to as a flare up. That's the best I can do with my limited knowledge. Hope the news turns out to be good ad you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hi , I agree with Derrick and Pierre. It does sound like a flare up to me. I don't get the tea colored urine, but when I have a flare up I have severe joint pain and the edema. I think you should be seen sooner rather than later. , it just seems like this year has been one thing after another for you, and I am so sorry you are getting hit again. Please try to rest up, and let us know what the doctors say ok? God bless you today in your pain .
Guest guest
Oh , These UTI infections have just been a thorn in your side haven't they! I hope that a course of antibiotics will quickly knock this off for you. Feel better soon!
Guest guest
Hi This sounds like a flare-up of some kind (maybe IgAN, maybe HSP, maybe something else), but rest assured that downward trend in terms of kidney failure is not like that. There's no blood associated with it. Edema from kidney failure is usually not the kind that goes away so easily. In fact, it tends to get worse as you move around, because the fluid tends to pool in the lower legs and feet, and when you're lying down at night, it does the opposite, pooling instead in the chest and abdomen. This is because with real renal impairment, you're not eliminating it fast enough, and there's no place for it to go. Edema from renal failure is usually very obviously the pitting kind, that is, when you press down on your ankle with one finger, it leaves a deep depression where your finger was. This is because the fluids moves around very easily. There are other causes and other kinds of edema though. All that being said, it might be a good idea to have yourself evaluated as soon as possible. If it were me, and I had symptoms like those (blood red urine), that I don't usually have, I would present myself at the local Emergency department if I couldn't see my GP right away. Perhaps your GP's office can advise you as to what you should do. I think your likely to get much more and quicker attention from your GP than a nephrologist when something like this happens. Good luck, and keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi , Pierre, Bill and got the bases covered, so I won't go there. I hope this flare eases off soon. With your recent problems this must be very scary. I hope your docs can provide some advice regarding that flank pain. I think of you often. How is Jessie settling in? Guest guest
Thanks , you must have all read my mind, my GP is sending me to the Renal Clinic on Wednesday for an emergency appointment, in the meantime he has taken bloodwork today, and a urine sample did in fact show a UTI, but I had no picked up on this, because the symptoms are not the same. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the concern. Best wishes Worried Hi Everyone If this had been just a subtle change I would not have worried too much. Guest guest
Dear Pierre Thank you so much for your message, it has put my mind at rest somewhat. The edema is as you describe, not the type to represent kidney failure according to my GP, whom I saw this afternoon. He will as you will see from my message to fixed for me to see a Neph as an emergency, but his concern for now was the high blood count in my urine, the joint pains, which although my sample showed a UTI, he did not think were the cause. I will of course keep you posted. Guest guest
Thanks , yes what a year one to forget as soon as I say, but I am taking it in my stride and will deal with day by day. I will let you know what happens of course over the next couple of days. Thanks for the blessings . Love Re: Worried Hi , I agree with Derrick and Pierre. It does sound like a flare up to me. Guest guest
Thank you Derrick, yes my GP is on the case as you will see from my messages to the others below, so I wont repeat myself again to you ok. I am hoping that this is just a flare up like you and describe, only I cant seem to remember it being this pronounced, usually only subtle changes. Will keep you posted, and thanks for the kind words. Guest guest
Hi Cy Indeed my dear friends below seem to covered it very well for me, but thank you very much for your message. I am hoping this is just a flare up and nothing more, my appointment will be interesting to say the least. Jessie has settled in very well Cy, a very nice pussy cat she is, and it would seem she is going to be a prolific mouser, always handy on the farm, but if only she would leave them outside LOL!!! Will keep you posted on matters as they unfold. Very best wishes Re: Worried Hi , Pierre, Bill and got the bases covered, so I won't go there. I hope this flare eases off soon. Guest guest
Thanks Bill I appreciate the reply, I am as you will see below, booked into to see a Neph as an emergency, I may not see my regular chap, but in this instance I cannot be choosy. I do have a UTI as the moment so hopefully this will be the reason why, but I don¡Çt think it is somehow, but until I know for sure, I am trying not to panic. Will keep you posted and thanks once again, I hope your suspected cold or flu does not affect you too much, take care ok.
