Guest guest
Dear listmates - I am at a standstill with the SCD. I have pondered many ideas on my own and am having some difficulty figuring out exactly what my 4 yr olds intentions are. We have been 100% legal for 2 months, progress is through the roof !!!! She is making amazing strides - one of the only reasons I've held out this long. I've become quite an SCD cook - making new gains myself. Food is great and really yummy!!! has eaten nothing more than eggs (scrambled) for 2 months, at one point I was able to manage some butternut and zuchinni in these eggs - until she caught on to what I was doing, then she refused even those. I have replaced all her favs with with SCD legal foods, she won't touch them, I have offered her everything under the sun and she won't touch it. I am concerned that 1) she's limiting herself bc she always has and this is what she's used to, 2) developmentally she's about 2-3 yrs old and food is one of her control issues - as she is learning some independence, 3)she's limiting herself bc this is what she can tolerate at this moment in time and she'll expand her diet later. Could be a combo or none of the above. I can make eggs for her and put them on a plate with some applesauce or something and she wigs out - if I put anything in the eggs she wigs out !! I eat SCD just as she does, and there are no illegals in the house she can get to. I have made a rotating menu and decided that people eat fish heads if they are hungry enough so she'll eat when she's ready, I have limited her juice intake 3 cups of juice and the rest water - it's been 3 days and she's not eaten a thing. I even called her ped and he said the same - she'll eat when she's hungry. She's been refusing water as of today - this may be a losing battle for both of us. I hope no one else has had this experience, but if you've even been close, I'd really like to know what kept you and your child on SCD. Progress is great, but I can't continue if she she's going to play power struggle - it would be a losing situation. I need some help and support - I'm going to lose it shortly. Guest guest
Karyn, I feel for you. I really do. This has happend with my son in the past and I have just waited it out and eventally as you said, he ate when hungry enough. Is your daughter at a healthy enough weight that you feel comfortable doing this...or are you worried cause she doesnt have much weight to spare? Sometimes I also tried offering things he absolutely refused in the past. Once in a while this has worked. Its almost like he got sick of what I was offering and when I mixed it up a little he'd try something new. I wish I had more and better advice for you. glad to hear you have the gains she has made backing you up. TRy to remember that when you are really frustrated. Sorry its so hard but know that we understand what you are going through. Good luck and keep up the good work. > Dear listmates - > > I am at a standstill with the SCD. Guest guest
- Thanks for the reply. I think her weight is fine, she would be ok to lose a few (she's not chubby), I just don't feel it's a weight issue. I'm worried bc I know her diet needs to be better, but do I push to the limits - and what are those limits??? I also need to be sure she's drinking plenty of fluids so that she stays hydrated - it's just really rough and I need to know that I'm doing the right thing by waiting her out. It's tough to walk around being hungry !!!!! I feel like crap - since she's autistic and has no reasoning skills, it's just worrisome and I feel like a bad mommy !!!! I have tried everything I can think of and it's not happening. How long did you hold out with your son????? Karyn, Mom to , 4 yrs, dx - autism, GF/CF, SCD 2 months Karyn, I feel for you. I really do.
