Guest guest
Hi there, my daughter has been in a Star band for almost 6 weeks now and I know what you are talking about, I don't think there is anything you can really do b/c you can't use powder or lotion, we use the 91% alcohol too, we do take the band off if she is eating really messy meal. We have the brown spots too, I think it's just dirt from sweating, thats all I can think of b/c it won't come off. But I know the smell you are talking about for sure, I hate it, I go to kiss her and gag! It seems to come out more when she sweats. Whatever that foam is inside it holds everything in, you just can't clean it. Sorry I wish I could have been more help but we are in the same boat! I guess maybe ask your ortho, maybe he/she will have some sugg. Take care! KAtie Mom to Abbey Star Banded 6/22 > I'm new here... just found this site through another plagio message > board. Guest guest
Cherie.. Hi there. My son wears the Doc band and we did go through the stinky head stage, but I have gotten rid of it. I'm a clean freak...Anyway, I clean it everyday and Connor's noggin too..LOL!! I use the 91% alcohol and a toothbrush...Just poor a little alcohol in the band and swish around and then scrub w/tooth brush. Then I use the blow dryer on " low " to dry it. Don't use the blow dryer on " high heat " , it will melt and mishape the band. ALso one more thing...you canget a higher concentration of alcohol at your pharmacy, I think it's 98% or 99% but you have to ask the pharmisist for it cause they do not sell it over the counter..Hope this helps you out..Oh one more thing, to get the noggin smellin nice, you use Loriels Kids shampoo, it comes in fruity sents and the sent lasts a long time.... & Connor in GA, by way of NY NJ & CT Brachy / 6.5 mos / Doc BAnd 7-14-04 > I'm new here... just found this site through another plagio message > board. Guest guest
Are you talking about stains inside or outside the band? If inside, you can't keep it pristine white. Skin cells will slough off the baby's head and embed themselves in the foam. You can scrub the helmet with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, washcloth, or jumbo cotton ball, but you'll still end up with discoloration on the inside. The other day Peanut ran at me to hug my knees just as I was trying to feed him a spoonful of yogurt. He got strawberry yogurt all down the inside of the helmet! As for that Dumpster smell, if you don't have sunshine, try a hairdryer. Scrub it well, dry it on low or medium heat, and make sure it is fully dry before you put it back on. If the stains are on the outside, I don't know what to tell ya. When Peanut's helmet was white, everything rubbed off with rubbing alcohol. Then I painted it, so if it gets really dirty or scratched I just repaint. Hope this helps, , 20 mos, tort, DOC Band 5/7 > I'm new here... just found this site through another plagio message > board. Guest guest
Hi Cherie!! I just had to HI! My name is Sherryl and my son's name is Zander! LOL We actually started out spelling his name Xander, but switched it when we realized that everyone was assumming it was spelled with a Z. Zander just got his STARband 2 weeks ago today. We have the same brown spot problem. I've noticed that our brown spots are always in the spots that the ortho files down at each visit. I've scrubbed and scrubbed those spots and they're just not coming clean. We also have the smell issues. I've found that taking off the helmet once in the morning and once before bed to clean (as well as cleaning Zander's head) has really kept the stink under control. We scrub it with 91% alcohol and a washcloth. Good luck to you and your Xander! Great to meet you!! Guest guest
Hi I will agree with what said. Your yellowish browninsh area's are going to be there. That is just the old skin coming off. We had them around the ears, and neck area. The best thing is the high percent alc, and heavy duty scrubbing. We had rough cotton 4 by 4s, and my hubby's thumb. lol Good luck We also took the band off about 2ce a day to dry my daughter's head, and the band Sandy WIllow's Mom > I'm new here... just found this site through another plagio message > board.
