Guest guest
I thought there was something wrong with my thermometer, so I bought a new one and compared the temps when I was heating the goat milk. The old thermometer was not calibrated correctly, I have since corrected it. I probably screwed the old one up when I overzealously scrubbed it clean one time. So that means all the yogurt that I have been giving my son for the past 3 months was potentially not fermented correctly. I was putting the starter (custom probiotics started) in at the wrong temperature. And I was heating the goat milk up to a higher temperature. This batch of yogurt did not firm up like past batches but I couldn't get regular goat milk. The best I could get was low-fat. Could that be why it didn't firm up? Also, my electricity went out for about 1/2 hour about 6 hours after I put the yogurt mixture into the yogurtmaker... I was hoping that 1/2 hour wouldn't screw up the mixture too badly. Our electric goes out a lot, for short amounts of time like this. VickiB
