Guest guest
Hi Chrystee, I am limited on veggies as well but make these huge ground pork burgers for Abby. Put in ground pork, garlic, salt, pepper and pureed green beans. The burgers are slightly green but you can't taste the veggie at all. I understand about the hitting thing. My daughter has gotten into this thing where if you say or she says " ouch " then she thinks she's supposed to hit. Not hard, but it's the point that she is just perseverating on it. I found out that Abby has a lot of problems with the pineapple and banana too. Have you tried the NO-Fenol. I plan to get that soon. He'll come out of it and do better. Sometimes they do just have a bad day and you don't know why and the next day is totally better...................... Guest guest
" stop the raw carrots he gets every other day " Of the things you listed, this would be what I would do. I am not saying that the roller coaster behavior is directly related to the raw carrots, but raw foods are very hard to digest. Anything that reaches the colon undigested makes a feast for the beasts we are trying to get rid of. What about adding new cooked veggies? Asparagus or something else? Avocados? What about using cooked fruit to make popsicles? Do you have a good behavioral plan in place? Something that is very consistent? I know it is HARD. Is it possible that when he is doing well, you slack off a bit on the plan and then the bad behavior returns? I do this myself and have to work very hard to be consistent even when my boys are behaving well. Or is it possible that he has seasonal allergies and is beginning to feel bad with Sprinig starting? Chrystee, One suggestion: Have you written down or even videotaped wqhat your son was like before SCD, and in the early weeks? If not, do so now while it is fresh, or search out and save some of your past posts. That way, when you get to a decision point, you can objectively compare before and after. You may find that even though issues remain, they really ARE better overall than Pre-SCD. Or you may not. But at least you will have good " data " . Our experience: We started the intro diet in mid-october. Adam has not had any raw fruit or veggies for the first almost 5 months. In the past 3 weeks, I have given him some green leafy veggies (baby spinach, a little romaine - salad stuff) occasionally, WITH a digestive enzyme. It seems to be OK, but I'm not at all certain he could handle raw stuff (though I wish he could!) My goal is to ahve him able to handle raw fruits/veg by summertime! P.S. I did not think I could do this. When I started, Adam only ate his veggies raw! He still eats mostly carrots and green beans (cooked). You know all the other " usual " suggestions. Go with your gut. I think your idea of a 6 month period is reasonable, but do keep notes. -- Sue, mom to Adam(6, ASD) and (9, n/t, gut issues) SCD 5 months
