Guest guest
Okay. You all better be sitting down when you read this. Mark, you, especially, will appreciate this one because you have just lived through it in a way.... I took Max to the pediatrician today just to touch base with her and let her see Max instead of talking to her on the phone and describing what is going on. She asked some questions and was able to hit the nail on the head - she asked if he had been tested for Lyme Disease. No. Para-something virus. No. STREP THROAT!!! NO!!! Well, guess what? Max has strep throat!!!!!!! When the quick strep came back positive, it all fell into place for Ann (the ped.). She explained that Max has post-strep serum sickness/vasculitis. She was able to put all of the puzzle pieces in place and drew a picture of exactly what has been going on with Max. Even the vomiting was a clue....Whenever Max has strep, he throws up a couple of times. But I did not put it together because 1) I had just been sick; 2) Max had no fever. Usually he spikes a high fever with strep. Ann immediately called Dr. H. (who had casually mentioned strep a day or so ago, but we thought it was not really possible) and Dr. H. was so excited! It all makes so much sense! This does not mean he will feel better in a day or two, but at least now we know the probable cause. Duh! I had to take Max for some bloodwork because they need to check and make sure certain organs are okay after having strep for what we think has been over a month. It will take a few days, but that is okay. Tonight he will start on Biaxin and be on his way to feeling better, I hope. Now all of us have to be tested. I was tested in the office, but the quick one was negative. They are doing an overnight. The rest of the family will go this weekend.
