Guest guest
Debbie, sounds like you are on the right track with your daughter and this is definitely the right place to vent <g> Lynda (in the UK) Adrenal I've mentioned my daughter before. Slight developmental delays (18 going on 12, but progressing), great learning problems, hyper.... With all I'm learning here, I think she may have thyroid issues as well. I think her learning problems may very well be short term memory difficulties. I am going to start pursuing that asap. I've got to show dh that this armour is making a difference with me first. Ohhh I get so tire of taking baby steps. Giant leaps would be so much fun! Anyway, one of our major problems with her is she can never settle down at night. Then, once she does get to sleep, we can't get her up. She'll sleep 10 to 12 hours straight. If we do manage to get her up, she drags all day....doesn't get her work done (we homeschool). This drives dh bonkers! He is a morning person. Plus others don't understand. They think it's a discipline issue. So I get blammed. I have tried ssooooo many things. Sometimes I want to yell, " IT'S NOT ME STUPID!! " Docs have given us various meds to get her to sleep, but they only work for a few days. I absolutely hate giving her this stuff. They want me to increase it, but I am resisting big time. After reading about the wired but tired symptom with adrenal fatigue and other adrenal stuff, I decided to try her on some adrenal support. I gave her the FTF because it has other ingredients that you need to take with it. It helps me not to have to push so many pills down her. Well....... all of a sudden her meds are working! Wonder why? hehehehe Last night she said, " Mom, you know how I used to go to bed and I had to read two chapters to get sleepy enough to fall asleep? Well, now I only read a couple of paragraphs and I'm out! " Now my next step will be to try reducing her sleep medicine and hopefully eliminate it all together. Lastly, if I can get to Dr. Milton, I'm going to take her also. It has been such a battle with my local docs dealing with my thyroid issues, I would probably push them over the edge if I started bugging them about Kate. My dh and I really get along fine, but this difference of opinion on traveling to a doc is about to get to me. Also while my hypo symptoms have only recently (last 10 yrs) gotten bad enough to affect quality of life, I think he's had problems from the get-go. We just didn't know it. And, I know he has adrenal issues. I believe Kate's got a double set of genes pushing her in that direction. I think he thinks I've gone off the deep end with this thyroid stuff, because I keep pointing out symptoms that we all have that are a part of hypothyroidism and/or adrenal fatigue. Of course, I get no help from the docs and it's made worsed by the fact that he trusts them too much. I haven't shared too much of this with you guys, b/c when I start to write about it, I just don't know where to start. There is so much! Plus, I don't want to overwhelm ya'll. I probably shouldn't say anything, but thanks for letting me vent. Anyway, I wanted to share about the FTF helping Kate to sleep at night. Maybe sometimes I'll post other symptoms and ya'll can see why I think TD and Adrenal disfunction is an issue with dh and Kate. Blessings, Debbie K. Blessings, Debbie K. Guest guest
Debbie, I know where you're coming from. My doc just tested tsh and ft4 and they came back " normal " . He wouldn't do the ft3 even though I asked. He said it was an " outdated " test. Anyway, I feel like I'm constantly trying to convince someone that there is something wrong with me or that I'm making excuses for myself. Then I feel like maybe I'm being a hypochondriac or something. My husband figures that if my doc says I'm fine why should I go somewhere else. I'm in one of those moods where I hate being me right now. Good luck with everything with yourself and your family. Shelli Adrenal I've mentioned my daughter before. Guest guest
Shelli..... I sure do feel for you! Just KNOW that all of this isn't in your mind and that your complaints and desire for help are completely valid. Does your doctor hand you a lab slip/sheet to take to the lab for drawing? Or does he verbally give the orders to the phlebotomist? If he hands you a slip, look on it for the free T3 test and STAND THERE until he checks the box. Do not MOVE until he does this. Do not give up on this issue. This is your right as a human being to be treated 100% and this disease usually cannot be treated as such without the free tests. He's playing an ego game with you so don't play along with him. His problem is is that if he tests for FT3 and it's not right, he'll be obligated to medicate for it and he probably doesn't know how or is one of these doctors who cringes at the thought of having to prescribe and therefore deal with the " dangers " (oh horrors!!!) of that lethal T3 medication. (I'm kidding here!) To any doctor who wouldn't prescribe T3 I would look straight in the eyes and firmly state, " Why can't I have T3? YOU and every other person with a normal thyroid has it flowing in their blood!! WHY is it not okay for me to have the full range of thyroid hormones flowing in mine! " Grrrrrr....... egotistical, ignorant doctors!! They make me want to puke! Just know that you're never going to get treated correctly for this disease unless you, yourself, take the bull by the horns, act ultra assertively and demand that the right things get done. I just KNOW how hard it is to do this when one is feeling like crap, the brain isn't working like it should and the self-esteem is in the toilet. But I know you can do it! You're NOT a hypochondriac! And above ALL else..... get physical copies of your TSH and FT4. I will NEVER again in my whole life accept a doctor telling me my results were " normal. " Never, ever! Especially when it comes to the thyroid! Good luck and just do it! Janet > Debbie, > I know where you're coming from. My doc just tested tsh and ft4 and they came back " normal " . Guest guest
Hi Debbie K., I get the digest version of this group so sometimes my (very few) responses are delayed. I have a 9 1/2 year old daughter I suspect of having hypo problems. (I have Hashi's.) I've had the standard TSH, FT4, and FT3 tests run on her. Her TSH numbers have indicated possible hypo problems, but her FT4 and FT3 were always near the upper range. As a " far reach, " her pediatrician did a Chromium check on her, and it was low normal. We put her on 1,000 mg Chromium/day and had her rechecked in 6 weeks. She was then in the upper normal range. During those 6 weeks we saw her fatigue and brain fogginess (she also homeschools) fade away, plus she began sleeping better. I pray that her chromium levels will stabilize and that there won't be a thyroid problem later. We'll see when her hormones kick in which may be within a year or so since she's showing signs of puberty. Chromium somehow affects your sugar levels. Just wanted to throw out another possibility for you to consider. You may e-mail me off list if you wish to compare more notes. Blessings to you, Janice in TN > I've mentioned my daughter before. Guest guest
Thanks Janice! I'm always looking for possibilities. I will certainly keep that in mind. I've heard they can take hair samples to check for mineral deficiencies. Wish I knew where I could send one. Blessings, Debbie K.
