Guest guest
I have been told that plagio can cause cognitive skills to be delayed. that the skull pieces being shifted can put pressure on certain parts of the brain to slow these learning skills down. Has anyone else heard that...I will be sure to call the doc in the morning and ask.....but i am just curious if anyone else has heard of that? Guest guest
This is definitely a concern that has been weighing heavily on my mind. I think there is some great info on this subject under " Research Links " . From what I have read, children with plagio are at an increased risk for developmental delay...it doesn't mean that its a given. Does anyone know what is meant by " developmental delay " ? Is it just a " delay " and perhaps things can be corrective with extra help and time? > I have been told that plagio can cause cognitive skills to be > delayed. that the skull pieces being shifted can put pressure on > certain parts of the brain to slow these learning skills down. Guest guest
Hi, My plagio/tort baby was developmentally delayed. She was in the Early Intervention for about a year. She was late rolling over, sitting up, crawling, standing. Basically she didn't reach her milestones when she " should " have. She did catch up with her peers and today is right where she should be. From what I understand her delays were caused by her tort and not her plagio. > > I have been told that plagio can cause cognitive skills to be > > delayed. that the skull pieces being shifted can put pressure on > > certain parts of the brain to slow these learning skills down. Guest guest
Hello Guys I am bad in remembering what the posts are called so I can't find it, but there was a post awhile back about this. ONe of the speciallists said that the delay causes the plagio and not the other way around. Do to the kiddos being delayed they don't move as much and this causes or can cause the plagio. Guest guest
I am the one that posted the reply Sandy is referencing. My daughter's Plastic Surgeon's opinion is that babies born with tort or developemental delays (hypotonia in my daughter's case - not diagnosed until she was 8 mos.) are more prone to Plagio. Reason: Tort and delayed gross motor developement result in less movement (especially in the neck and trunk)and the lack of movement contribute to the plagio. Therefor, since parents don't usually see developemental delays until babies are 6 mos. or older and the plagio is already established, many feel the plagio caused the delay - he feels in relationship is inverse, with the delay causing the plagio. I hope this makes sense - he, of course, explained it better. As far as cognitive and social developement - he did not discuss, but did say that plagio causes no problems other than skeletal ones, however, I know ther are other schools of thought on this. I hope this helps!! - St. Louis Sydney (PPO band 5-10-04 @ 9 mos. for severe brachy/tort) -- In Plagiocephaly , " Sandy " <samipa74@y...> wrote: > Hello Guys > I am bad in remembering what the posts are called so I can't find > it, but there was a post awhile back about this.
