Guest guest
and I went to Children's Memorial , Chicago and they said with RSS (chris was 6months) there is nothing you can do he will be 5ft with no desire to eat and a slow grower. I travel to Ny to see Dr. H. I realize see does not know all but she has got to grow and Is very comfortable with her. That may change after this visit. I did however sat on my hands (for a year)because I did not like what she had to say at a convention or how she came off. But point of fact is growing. dale murphy: elmhurst I will see you at the convention
Guest guest
Hi Judy Storm does not have a g-tube, I really hope he never has to. His birthday is Aug. 28, when is 's? Storm has gotten taller, but he hasn't gained weight. On Sept. 21, 1999 He was 34 1/2 " tall and weighed 23 lbs. He is now 36 " tall and still weighs 23 lbs. So it's been 7 months with no weight gain at all, yet he has grown 1 and 1/2 " in that same amount of time. Our pediatrician just wrote a prescription for Pediasure in hopes that WIC would give it to us. I will check into that later today. Thanks for writing back. Ross is 6 but at 4 1/2, his height was 36 " and he weighed 23 lbs. - exactly Storm's height and weight. Between ages 2 and 5 he gained around 2-3 lbs. per year, but between 5 and 6 he gained a little over 5 lbs. I'm not sure what was different, except that he does seem to eat more now than he did and we occasionally use a high-calorie shake called Scandishake. Is Storm taking anything for appetite stimulation such as Periactin? That has really seemed to help with Ross' appetite over the last few years that he has been taking it. I think a year is too long between endo appointments! We like to see ours every 3-4 months primarily because their measurements are so much more accurate than ours and we can really see the height/weight gain (or not). I would think you could insist on seeing your ped endo whenever you wanted to, can't you? From all I know from Dr. Harbison and our pediatrician, the weight gain is just as important as the height gain, primarily because the body needs the " fuel " to grow taller. Maybe you can urge your pediatrician to intervene on your behalf with the ped endo since he/she is concerned, too. had mentioned funding for the MAGIC convention through a state agency. We also received funding to go to the convention. I would urge everyone to contact their state's equivalent of the Developmental Disabilities Council that we have here in our state. I believe it is under the Department of Mental Health & Mental Retardation/Bureau of Children With Special Needs. Good luck with everything, Carmen. Let us know how everything goes. Guest guest
Hi Carmen, My son is 3 ( on Sunday). I know you asked about 4 year olds but I thought 's height and weight might help. He is 23 1/2 pounds and 34 " tall. Our pedo sees him quarterly. I think a year is too long. Our pedo endo wanted to see every 6 months but we didn't feel comfortable with that so we asked to see her quarterly. I think now she is glad we see her that often. So you might want to schedule an appointment earlier. I hope this helps Ken M Re: 4 year olds -----Original Message----- >Hi All! >Could those of you with 4 year old kids give weights and heights, and >other info. Guest guest
My son just turned 4 years old this past Saturday. He is 37 inches tall and is little over 31 lbs. He has been on GH since he turned two and has a mickey for continues night feedings. My suggestion: Go and see another endo. Guest guest
Hi Carmen, Does Storm have a good appetite? 's birthday is September 7. 's weight gain and height have slowed tremendously in the last 7 months. The doctor wants to start growth hormone in June. Guest guest
Carmen - I didn't know your specific email, so sorry everyone for copying you on this! Our daughter is 4 yrs 3 months. Her current weight is 27 1/2 lbs., her height is 37 " (38 " according to Dr. H when she does that stretching thing). has not gained any weight since she was 3 yrs 3 months. She has gained 2 inches in height between 3 yrs 3 months and 3 yrs 9 months. She has not really gained any height in the last 6 months. I agree with everyone else. Once a year for a peds endo is not enough. Every 6 months for an RSS child doing well. I would say every 3 months for a child still struggling with weight/height issues, or who has parents like us who get nervous!!!
