Guest guest
Hi, With Neely's age and tort I definitely think you're making the right decision with changing to Cranial Tech. Which facility will you be using? I'm sure we have members who have used the same one and can give you advice on the clinician(s). I still would love to see what her current helmet looks like when you are able to finish up your film, plus we of course would love to see a picture of Neely! CT does have all the casting materials on hand and can usually get you in for an appt fairly soon. The helmet would be fitted no longer than 2 weeks after the casting. Many of our babies wear DOCbands and have had great correction. You can see in our photos/before and after/DOCband some of them. Your daughter is denfinitely not too old either. My Hannah got her third helmet at 15 mos and still saw correction from 15-19mos. Another good thing about CT for your decision is that all their clinicals are PT's or OT's and are very familiar w/tort. Please keep us posted on when you're able to get a casting appt. Be sure to bring a lollipop for use during the casting! , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad 7/29 Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " bwvinson2000 " <BVINSON2@c...> wrote: > The new soft helmet that you are refering to is the one that they > gave my daughter to wear. Guest guest
We will be using the one in Charlotte. How do I post a picture of Neely? > > The new soft helmet that you are refering to is the one that they > > gave my daughter to wear. Guest guest
Hi! I couldn't remember who it was, but I am so glad that you posted with information about Neely's Danmar repo helmet. I would indeed love to see a photo of this product. I'm sorry you haven't seen any progress. I can understand your concern, however, since many babies at 8 months old aren't even sleeping on their flat spot the majority of the time; you have to wonder if the repo helmet is accomplishing much if the baby no longer sleeps on their back anyway! May I ask you if there were any adjustments that were to be made to this helmet over time, as would be with a cranial molding helmet/band? Is this helmet supposed to actually reshape the head, or just keep her off of her flat area? Did they give you a name for this product, or was it written on any paperwork or instructions? I think a repo helmet like the one you have described might be very helpful for much younger baby being repo'd, or even an older repo baby who has already had a lot of correction through repo, and is stubbornly still sleeping on their flat spot at night. As the Repositioning Mod, I'm especially interested in how this nighttime repo helmet could help younger babies. I don't personally understand how correction would take place in an already 8 month old baby that no longer sleeps on their flat area anyway. I wonder what age ranges Danmar is recommending this nighttime repo helmet be worn? Do they take the baby's current preferred sleep position in consideration before recommending that this repo sleep helmet would work? So, did you already go for a consult at Cranial Tech? Did you say you were not impressed with the ortho you saw there? I think it's a great idea to give it another go and try to see a different ortho if you like. If you know that your baby is not getting any benefit from a nighttime repo helmet, it's certainly appropriate to get an evaluation or move forward with a cranial molding band that will actively redirect growth. Would you let us know how that consult/casting goes? Thank you so much for posting the additional info and your experience with the Danmar nighttime repo helmet for your 8 month old. The baby's current sleep position is obviously an important consideration when evaluating how much correction can be achieved with this product. This will be valuable information to pass along for other parents who are considering giving this product a try. I am interested in being able to bring this product to the attention of parents of much younger babies who are near a Danmar facility and would like to try repositioning. Guest guest
I hope this helps - my son has been in a Danmar passive helmet since age 4 months (now 6 months old) for mild to moderate plagio. I have posted a picture of him in helmet (located under the photos of plagio kids - P). You can see on the left side of the picture a " block " attached to the side of the helmet that corresponds with his flat spot. I am interested if this is the same helmet your child has been given. To share our experience, we have been very happy with the results so far. Our pied refered us to Wake Forest Baptist hospital in Winston- Salem NC to a plastic surgeon Dr . She assess his plagio at a level 3 on scale of 0 (none) - 6 (High) using a new cranial scanning technique. As the helmet was " off the shelf sizing " , received his hemet on the day of the initial doctor visit - we did not have to do any fittings for his helmet. The block on the side of the helmet allowed us to provide 23 hr a day repositioning to our son's flat spot - regardless of sitting, sleeping or in a swing, the block encouraged to self reposition. As this is not a custom fit helmet, our next follow up visit was 7 weeks into the use of his helmet. The second scan placed his plagio at a level of 2, with an expectation of moving to a level 0 or 1 within in the next 8 weeks. We will return on Sept 3 for our next check up. In terms of price, this type of treatment seems to be quite inexpensive compaired to the other treatments listed - the helmet itself is $250.00. I believe our success has been so great due to two factors - beginning fairly early in helmet treatment and 100% compliance to wearing the helmet 23 hrs a day. > > The new soft helmet that you are refering to is the one that they > > gave my daughter to wear.
