Guest guest
I am trying to get my son on the SCD diet. He has terrible gastritus (reflux and colitis too) I took away his chips that were corn based and that he was living on more or less(he was already GFCF), and now there is nothing in his stomach to soak up all that acid. It has been almost nonstop crying...some anger that his chips are gone...but a lot is pain from an empty stomach. He wont eat much that is legal so far. I had been using Maalox and Tums...Maalox has sorbitol....Tums doesnt seem to help much. He takes pepcid and an antispasmotic prescribed by Dr Krigsman. He does not tolerate any PPI meds. Are there any SCD-legal antacids that could help him? Joy
Guest guest
Hi Joy, I don't know a safe antacid, but I have a comment on the reflux. I had terrible reflux about a year or so ago -- so bad that I went to a clinic once thinking I was having heart problems! I went on a low-carb diet (not SCD -- it's not low carb) and my reflux went away. After a year reading on this list, I have decided it must have been bacteria -- all the way up to my esophagus!!! which got starved out by the diet. What I mean is that since I wasn't eating sugars and starches, the bacteria didn't get fed. Hopefully if you can get your little guy on SCD it will actually resolve his reflux. Guest guest
Sue, I totally agree with you on that. I had a severe case of pancreatitis in Nov. 02' and was hospitalized for two weeks. I took protonix for a long time then switched to OTC antacids. Recently going on the South Beach diet my heartburn completely went away. Now I find when I eat bad (carbs, sugars) then it just comes back. I think the SCD is a better diet for reflux, etc. than just the GFCF. Guest guest
My son's reflux is secondary to other gut problems. I am hoping that the SCD resolves these primary problems and and reflux pain will then go away. It seems that every effort to address the primary problems...colitis, gastritis....the reflux gets in the way. The SCD, I believe, is the answer for him....if I can just get him there!!! I am looking at Alka Selzer Gold...it might be legal. Getting it in him though might be a problem! Guest guest
Dr. Krigsman is Abby's doctor too.......she is using prescription prilosec right now and it is working really well.....just expensive. She is diagnosed with colitis also and we are using sulfasalazine but not the full dose at the moment. Guest guest
I vaguely remember that there's a problem with Alka Seltzer Gold. Guest guest
Joy, Natural lemon is a natural alkalizer. Also the more good water one drinks , the more alkaline your system becomes.
