Hi ,

I am glad you posted. We do have a number of spouses here on the board.

Although I am the one with IgAN, and not the spouse, I still wanted to chime in

and say that sometimes I think it is harder on my husband to watch me go

through this than it is on me. I know he feels so much pressure, worries that I

will soon face dialysis, and I know he feels so helpless. It is also hard on

him

when I don't have the energy to keep up with everything he wants to do when

my fatigue is really bad.

For the patient, it is just life, and those of us with IgAN just accept it as

part of us, but for our loved ones, they do feel sometimes overwhelmed with

the impact IgAN can have on the entire family.

For me, I just really accept each day as a blessing from God, try to live

each day to the fullest extent possible and remember everything I have to thank

God for each and every day. It does help to keep a positive attitude.

I am really sorry that you have to watch your husband deal with IgAN . I

do know it is not easy.

I must say I am with Elvira on this one. Please do call the doctor again.

You should not be in this much pain after 3 (or is it 4 now) days on

antibiotics.

No , there's nothing wrong with you....

I might get people on this site stomping on me for saying this, but I think

it is more difficult sometimes if it is the husband that is sick. Many guys

are wired not to talk about it - which can make things difficult. When my

husband was sick (very, very serious non-kidney stuff), all of his energy

went into going to work, meeting work deadlines and trying to stay off

disability for as long as possible. This was all very good, but it didn't

include acknowledging that he was very, very sick or was about to die in the

very near future. Needless to say, his priorities and mine were not exactly

aligned. Probably, a bit like you, I thought I was losing a noodle. I

don't know if there is an easy solution to this one. A light touch and a

bit of humor may help.

Throwing up is not normal IgAN. I'd call the doctor about that one. It

could be a reaction to meds or something completely different.

I hope things get easier for you and your husband. What do his numbers look

like?

Cy, I certainly wouldn't disagree with that about guys. I've never actually

counted, but I'm guessing women outnumber men on this group at least two to

one (maybe more even), even though IgAN is more common among males

percentage-wise. It may not seem like that now, since I started this group,

but I'm among those who completely ignored any signs of kidney disease until

the symptoms started forcing me to pay more attention. I totally ignored it

from 1977/78 to 1990 or so. Never even went to see a doctor for a good 10

years in the interval. I wouldn't advise doing the same to anyone else

though! I suspect I had high blood pressure long before, years before it was

actually discovered on a routine medical. Who knows, earlier treatment for

it might have bought me many years before dialysis.

,

Vomitting is definitely not a feature of IgAN. It could be one of more

advanced kidney failure (not sure I recall where your husband stands in that

regard). Could be lots of things, including intolerance of his blood

pressure pills. Best to check with his doctor on that, as Cy suggests.

actually I am not any better, but I havent broke out in any hives since last

Fri, so I think I will be ok. I am still having the pain and blood though.

So we'll see if that gets any better by Wed if not then I am going to my

doctors office and demand that I be seen...lol But I am taking this pain

pill that makes me feel really good, so that is some relief right now.

Thanks for asking about me, it makes me feel good to know that people care

enough to ask, so thanks....:)

Well ,

Any better today? Did you call the doctor about the hives?

I hope you were able to feel well enough to really enjoy the wedding this

weekend.

Hi :)

I am really very sorry that you still have blader problems...

I had urinary track infections several times in my life BUT all was

fine in 2-3 days ( the pain) after taking a medicine called FURAGINE.

It's not probably an antybiotic becouse you could buy it without any

problem at the drug store here in Poland.

I am really worried about you, it takes so long ...so please call the

doctor again !

Take care,

Elvira

  • 3 weeks later...

I would certainly call my Neph and let him know what is going on. You

can tell him about the regular Dr. appointment so that he can then make

a judgment call about what to do. I would think though that you would

best be served by your neph. judging who you should be seen by.

Worried

Hi Everyone

If this had been just a subtle change I would not have worried too

much.

Over the weekend, upon rising in the morning, my ankles, lower

abdomen and below my eyes are puffy, I presume edema, after moving

around for a while it goes down. Also my flank pain is very bad at

the moment, making me feel nauseous, and every joint, and I mean

every joint seems to ache. My urine is also very bloody, not the

usual cola colour, but red.

Is this a sign of downward trend due to impaired kidney function? I

am mindful that I have bladder problems also, but this is as bad as

I have felt IGAN or otherwise for some months.

I am booked in to see my GP this week, but with no Neph appointment

now until 28 Oct, the 16 Sept was again cancelled, I am a little

worried.

Input from you guys gratefully received.

Best wishes

It sounds like your kidneys may be having a flare-up. Sometimes this

happens to me when I am in the process of getting sick (cold/flu/etc).

I wouldn't read anything major into it BUT I would certainly call my

nephrologist ASAP and let him know - he'll likely want to see you

sooner.
