Guest guest
I am into the end of 's first week with her helmet....and I find that I KEEP TAKING IT OFF OF HER! I just think she is so uncomfortable at times. the first full night sleeping with it on was last night and 6 hours into it I took it off of her. She just has a ton of hair and I can literally ring sweat out of her hair when I remove it. Then i get to thinking she needes to be cooler so I dont put socks on her and dress her cool. All night I find myseld creeping into her room making sure she is warm enough without overheating..its terrible I am keeping myself and my husband up. ANYWAY I did not put it on her today OR TONITE... THE REASON she woke up this morning after 1st night of helmet with her neck all positioned to one side...could not sit up without falling over...had a very hard time crawing..to boot I gave her her morning bottle...within 10 minutes she threw it up.....and talk about poor kid she was just very bothered today...I could barley touch her without her trying to hit me and she would put her hand to her head and hit her head...WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT?????? SO I FELT COMFORTABLE TO GIVE IT A REST INCASE SHE IS COMING DOWN WITH SOMETHING (or was it the helmet)who knows maybe she is teething she is one and still no teeth. Sorry so long...but I am just dealing with alot of guilt.....that I cant seem to keep it on her...for more than a car ride or 4- 6 hours in bed. I will take any help I can...thanks in advance. , 1year helmet: May 20,2004
Guest guest
Dear , I am sorry you and your daughter are having a hard time adjusting to the helmet. I know what you mean, as Lucia (7 months) did not adapt to it until her first week was over. If I can give you a piece of advice, and considering your daughter's age, keep her helmet on at all times. The sweat will decrease, it is true that the body regulates itself after a while. Every time you take the helmet off for a while, your daughter's body has to readjust to it again. On the psycological side of it, your daughter is old enough to understand that, if she makes a big deal about it, the helmet will come off. You are unvoluntarily teaching her what the treshhold is for the fussing to be effective. With this said, I know how difficult it is to look at your baby suffering from it. But, believe me, as I went through the same with a baby who did not adapt right away, she can and will adjust. Give her the chance to do it. Make it easier on her by keeping it on all the times. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Valeria > I am into the end of 's first week with her helmet....and I > find that I KEEP TAKING IT OFF OF HER! Guest guest
Thank you I will keep trying ...I think some of my problem is that the helmet is too big and keeps rotating and she just looks so bothered by it. (example she usually falls right to sleep at night and last night just laid in her crib for an hour (not Crying) but eyes open....Anyway I will have to get past it knowing that its not forever..Thanks for your encouraging words.........PS when I do take the helmet off of her to scratch her head etc her hair is soaked..>DO I HAVE TO BLOW DRY IT before putting the helmet back on? Thansk again. -----Original Message-----From: vvolin [mailto:vvolin@...]Sent: Thursday, May 27, 2004 7:54 AMPlagiocephaly Subject: Re: Need Help...keep taking her helmet offDear ,I am sorry you and your daughter are having a hard time adjusting to the helmet. Guest guest
Hi , You're probably right in that may be getting too hot if she's sweating that much. I'd take her helmet off every couple hours or more if you have to for now just to dry her hair and wipe the helmet dry. Her head will eventually adjust temp wise and she wont' sweat like that. If you look at her scalp closely has she developed any rash? This could really bother her, but may be harder to see w/lots of hair. Also, how do you think the fit is? Can you post any pictures? , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma > I am into the end of 's first week with her helmet....and I > find that I KEEP TAKING IT OFF OF HER!
