Guest guest
....and relative to genius! As it turns out, many studies have been done on this subject! " ...These findings confirm an association between dyslexia and positive, but not negative, schizotypal traits. Mixed-handedness was strongly associated with dyslexia, and in controls with those measures of psychosis-proneness involving unusual perceptual experiences. This suggests that reduced lateralization may be a feature common to both dyslexia and the Unreality syndrome of schizotypy, which may help to account for the strong relationship between them. " Here is a link to the abstract: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7775222 Here's another study, at a Greek website but in English: http://www.obrela.gr/psychiatry_5_2.htm And here's a fascinating article on genetics that discusses the left and right hemispheres of the brain, the development of language expressing itself in right-handedness, and an evolutionary advantage of left-handedness and why that can express itself either in genius, psychosis, or both! http://www.gnxp.com/MT2/archives/000191.html Brain studies fascinate me. Its also making me lean more toward a genetic explanation of borderline pd, which I have felt for a while ought to be moved back into the schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (as " schizophrenia lite " , so to speak: the mildest form of the schizophrenias.) So, my nada was/is both dyslexic and left-handed *and* has a personality disorder that features transient psychotic breaks with reality (which I have even observed her experience, on more than one occasion.) The genetic factor as the source of personality disorder is sounding pretty compelling to me! -Annie
